Just wondering what kind of Drum Thrones you guys have?? Regular Round Seated, Motorcycle Sysle, Bicyle, w/ A Back??
Tell your story.. and tell your back problems ;)
Personally I have a Pork-Pie Bicyle Seat in Black and it's Velvet on the top.. Very nice chair and since having it I havent had a bad back after ;) Best $225 I ever spent.

Motorcycle Style Generic brand Throne. Black and leather.
Most comfortable seat I've used.

Sounds pretty awesome.. Too be honest I'm thinking that mine in Motorcycle but I can't remember.. All I know it's amazingly comfortable and all other drum thrones I sit on now feel like crap.

I know how you mean Slippy. Any of the regular stools get uncomfortable really quickly to me now. I can play on my motorcycle seat for hours (as I proved yesterday)

Yeah, I know my old seat.. I couldn't even use.. After I got off I couldn't walk right.. my back was so bad.. And the fact that I usually play for hours on end don't help either.. Although the one that our church has (A DW one) is alot better then most and my friends Ayotte kit got a Pearl with it which is a motorcycle I think.. Which kinda makes since meaning I got a bicyle one and that one is also quite comfortable but I don't think it matches my Pork - Pie.

I've heard those Pork-Pie's are awesome, but I haven't seen anything about them anywhere. I think our local music store is too poor to stock anything like that. There's barely any new drumming stuff in there each time I go in.

Wait, maybe I have a Bicycle seat... What's the difference between the bicycle and motorcycle seat?

Any clarification?

I think they could be one and the same.
The only difference I could tell is that mine (calling it the motorcycle seat) has a wider tip at the front, where as yours does not.
I don't really know, can anyone clarify?

From what I've been told, you both have a motorcycle seat (me too!:ok: ) as a bicycle seat is narrower and tapers down out the front.

Hmm, kinda makes sense there Drumbum.. although hellsbells looks smaller in the front.

I finally played on a motorcycle style throne a few weeks ago and I will never use a standard throne again. I can not beleive I put up with my butt wandering for over 25 years :icon_surprised:

I have been perfectly satisfied with my radial Gibralter throne. It replaced my old Ludwig Accent throne after I sat down on it too hard, bent one of the legs, and fell backwards busting my head on a concrete wall behind me.
Double Braced hardware can be somewhat of a gimmick on stands and other hardware, but I consider it rather important on a throne.

Just got a Pearl Roadster, motorcyle seat. First time for that type of seat, and I love it.VERY comfortable, great adjustment.

I never did like the motorcycle type or others with pre-formed molds. I found it distracted me when I wanted to move around. It's too confining. I like just the good old-fashioned round seat.

I've been leaning toward the motorcycle style with my next one ... my problem with round ones is they tend to cut off the circulation in the legs ... no matter how cush your tush has, if your legs don't have enough circulation, you're gonna be miserable after a gig!

It is so cool how nearly everybody has a different preferance, never mind what the majority of non-drummers think about us!! The drum kit is definately the most unique and customisable instruments out there, and it is bloody hard to play to boot. (boo + yak) * sha = Booyakasha non-drummer peoples...

I bought a Pulse motorcycle style for $50 and it is pretty decent. It never has gotten uncomfortable yet. It is the corkscrew kind and it gets loose at the clamp every once in awhile but not bad. I just take the visegrips and tighten the lock screw down extra tight (built good enough it don't break, major plus) after that it is good to go about 15 full hours before I have to tighten it again.
Not a bad seat for the cash, super 4 legs sturdy. I like it and if I had the cash to buy an expensive one I would buy a bunch of these. I just would.

Need help guys... I'm looking at getting a moto-style thread-adjust throne this week. The stock throne that came with my kit is just crap... can barely make 10 minutes sitting on it without re-adjusting/tightening the clamps. I just wanna know if thread-adjustable thrones are generally wobble-free. What do I need to look for to make sure it's rock solid? Thanks!

I was actually thinking the same about my kit, dd... but I also think my back is more important to me. I might play my drums better (hopefully) with a good back and better posture. :boom-crash:

i would agree with you but my stool is doing its job and its never given me any back truble or circulation trubal so ill just keep it although the top does like to fall of when i trasport it.

I play a round seat with a hydraulic leaver for raising and lowering it. Real nice when sharing a kit between two drummers at Church who like different heights. Not real comfortable... I think a moto thrown with hydraulic adjustment would be nice.

I use a Ludwig tractor style throne that has a screw height adjustment. It really is more comfortable than my old entry level round throne, although that wasn't terrible, and when someone else sits in on the kit the height adjustment is pretty quick.

I've gone through a few "Sale" thrones and that's what they were (read that as cheap). I saw many of the drummers in my area using the Roc-N-Soc throne. Eventually, I bit the bullet and plopped down $125 and bought the bicycle seat spindle throne. I thought I wanted the nitro-lift model but learned that there is no way to recharge that if it should fail. With regards to mine, I didn't think I'd like the bicycle seat but have been proved wrong. It's wide enough and comfortable to sit on few any stretch of time. I think now that I will add the back support.:drumset-3: :drumset-3:

To me a seat is a seat. I'd rather put more of that money into the instrument side of the drums. The important thing is comfort and posture I guess. Beyond that, what is really needed in a seat?

I don't have a proper throne yet. I am using a short stool, and I admit it gives me a few problems. After reading the posts here and reading reviews on several sites, I realize that I should put some money into the seat. I want to be comfortable so I can play without wearing out too fast.
I don't think a bicycle seat throne would be too comfortable though.

My parents bought me a tractor style mapex leopard print throne a while back...sooooo comfortable. I've made guitarists jelous! Its a well built sturdy throne with added bonus of looking good in leopard print. I do agree that rounds can give some back trouble...especially if they move around like a rollercoaster............12 song set on one of those really doesnt make your back happy

Been there Socal! My first throne was the same thing, although I really didn't think it was all that bad. What I wanted was more adustability as I was figuring out exactly where I wanted to sit in relation to the kit. Once I started doing that, I found out that I was seated way too low, and was hampering my ability to effectively work the kick pedal. New throne, new possibilities! :icon_cool:

Just got myself a used Pearl moto-seat double-braced thread-adjust (whew!) throne for 60 bucks and I must say it was a steal. :dancing:
The cushion is made of molded foam that's 16 inches wide and 6 inches thick with a leather finish. Very easy to adjust but not that quick compared to hydraulics. Rock solid and heavy duty, absolutely no wobbles! I just don't know what model it is but no doubt it's the best throne I've used so far.

They may need to get into the drum seat market to keep them afloat. I read where sales were off by as much 35 percent last quarter. I am sure the tightening credit market is the cause. Who knows! :icon_mrgreen:
Amazing. I haven't seen one word about Roc'n'Soc. Or do I need to hit the optomotrist again?
I have two of them after too many years of radial thrones. One is hydraulic and the other is threaded.
Their velvet covered motorcycle style seats are the best for comfort and durability. Just ask my butt. :shifty: Erm, wait, that didn't sound right. :eh:

Yeah Bish, there hasn't been much said about the Roc 'n Soc, but Fiacovas did mention that he has one. I guess we've all talked about the Roc 'n Soc thrones before, and most people would say it's the gold standard. On the other hand, my Ludwig throne is a fabric covered motorcycle seat with threaded height adjustment, and it cost me half as much as the Roc 'n Socs, so I'm happy with what I have. I guess each person has what they have for their own reasons.

being that i am a man of... considerable mass... holding my person in place is no small feat. so, i decided to get something with a motorcycle/tractor seat. i ended up with a sound percussion bum holder. i've heard they dont make particularly great drums, but this throne has done the job nicely. it's very comfortable, and for 90 bucks, not a bad deal either.

Let me tell ya PB...the first "throne" I had with my first drum kit was just a 4 legged wooden bar stool!!! I kid you not!:icon_mrgreen: Couldn't afford one at the time.
About 7 years ago when I moved here from South Korea, and had room for a kit again, I boought my PDPs, and a Pearl Speed Seat. It was a cheap throne...and as the saying goes you get what you pay for! My back and butt would start hurting after about 30 minutes on that darn thing.
So, I was looking at GC for a DW 9000 throne, and the sales rep suggested Pork Pie. Tried it, fell in love with it, and the rest is history!!
So naturally after I bought the "Green Monster" I needed a second one!:punk::icon_mrgreen:
These thrones are highly recommended, just my .02.
maybe its the throne that limits playing time the most?

Most definitely. Before I got my Roc-n-Soc, I could only play for about a half hour before I started to get sore and would play on anyway. Now I don't even think about it cause it's not an issue at all anymore.
