If it were me, I'd go on ebay and see what they're asking and getting for similar kits.

Roachmon, if you are selling it locally, it will also have something to do with what people in your area are willing to pay. In areas where the economy has hit people hard, the kit would not go for as much as in an area where people are not affected by the economy as much. But if you are selling it on eBay, then you should follow RD's advice so that your dad's kit is an attractive option.
I did Google PDP MX drums and found a 5 piece MX kit with no hardware or cymbals for $575 in Garden Grove, CA.

Having sold a lot of items on eBay I'd recommend selling the kit and individual cymbals separately. The general rule of thumb is that a full set of cymbals will not for the same as the sum of its parts. If everything is in great condition as you say it is I think you could sell it for...
Ping ride - 140-180
2x 16" Medium - 100-125
18" Medium - 120-150
Mastersound hi hats - 175-225
TOTAL - 650-700
After looking on eBay, used X7's with hardware sell for 500-600.

I think you are spot on with your selling price estimates.

Thanks BTD. Like most drummers, I'm a BIGTIME gearhead. I'll purchase used gear and sample it for a little while and if it doesn't make it through the final audition I'll just sell it on eBay. I can't count how many cymbals I've bought and sold in the last 7-8 years. We're lucky as drummers. There's so much great gear in today's market that it's not a matter of finding one we like, but rather trying to decide which one we like the most!
