Welcome to Drum Chat Jazzman! How long have you been playing now. I ask that because the things you are concerned about generally happen naturally over time, with practice. It's a muscle memory thing. Just work on your single stroke, and double stroke rolls, and work with a metronome. Keep pushing the tempo, as long as you are able to keep everything clean - back off when you can't. You'll see that over time you will increase your hand speed.
If you're a more advanced player, then you might be needing to learn the Moeller Technique to get the speed you want.

I agree with PB , first you must stat out slow and steady , practice , practice practice .
When everything becomes smooth and steady going slow , then start picking up the pace .
Like anything else in life , first you must learn to crawl before you can walk . And the more you practice correctly , the faster you will learn and the easier things become .

i think you should think about music and drumming and get inspired by what great musicians are doing and get some focus and goals. you seem to be all over the place and just wanna be a drum wiz. it's difficult having progression if you don't really know what your goal is.

Is that similar to cheese wiz??
First of all, Welcome To Drum Chat Jazzman!
The best thing you can do is to just keep practicing and working on your tempo. Having a solid tempo is really important. Once you're secure in that, speed will come naturally the more you play.
For tuning, there are many methods, and I believe there is a Drum Tuning Bible or something on here somewhere. :icon_mrgreen:
But to make it simple - with the drum flat on the floor, place your head on the drum, put in the lugs and hand tighten. Next, place your palm on the center of the head and push down hard. Tighten each lug until the wrinkles go away, and no more than that. Just til the wrinkles smooth out. Now put two fingers in teh middle of the drum head and do the same thing - just til the wrinkles come out. That should get you close. Now if you have to, you can tighten the lugs maybe an eighth or quarter turn all the way around until it sounds the way you want it to.
Good luck.

It takes time my friend don't worry you'll get there. If you practice, and really believe you can.

I'm glad you posted that Norske. I forgot that Jazzman wanted tuning advise too.
Jazzman, you can google "Prof. Sound's Drum Tuning Bible," or you can click on the Drum Bum banner at the upper right of the page. If you go to Drum Bum, after you look around (it kind of a cool place), go to the lessons page, and look for "tuning." The Drum Bible link will be there. Drum Bum also has an impressive number of links for other lessons.
