cymbal boom stand shoot out
so i got this idea from late8s pedal shootout. im reviewing the
pearl 900 boom stand
gibraltar 6600 boom stand
yamaha 800 series boom stand
and ludwig 9000 boom stand
okay so lets start with the pearl
pearl 900 boom stand
pros: good wing nut, solid, double braced good tilter
cons: if you sett the legs to narrow, it falls easy. and boom lenght isnt as long as other stand.
verdict (rating for its level) 8/10
Gibraltar 6600 boom stand
pros: cheaper than other stands, double braced, great flets/ "griped" boom arm.
cons: hard to find nowadys, pretty much only availble online.
verdict 8.9/10
Yamaha 800 boom stand
pros: double braced, thick (1.5 inch) felts, long boom arm. yamaha solidity. very user-friendly
cons: no "grip" on boom arm, big legs
verdict 9.7/ 10
Ludwig 9000 series stand
pros: Extremely heavy, long boom arm, thick boom arm
wont fall down, pretty much ever
cons:
un sophisticated tileter, felts wear out fast,
verdict: 7.9/10
*bonus!* DW 5000 boom stand
pros: dw quality solid, "griped boom arm, good felts
cons: none that i can see, however most expensive of this level
verdict 9.8/10
overall id go with the the yamah or dw, but the gibraltar is a solid third. pearl is nice, but id go for the bc2000 boom stand, and ludwig is good if u just want a stand that dosent fall.
SORRY I DIDNT INCLUDE PDP OR TAMA, AS I AM UNFAMLIAR WITH THEIR PRODUCTS. PLEASE ADD TO THIS SHOOT-OUT IF YOU HAVE EXPERINCE With their products., ALSO SORRY FOR MAPEX, I HAVE NEVER EVEN SEEN MAPEX STANDS IN PERSON.
Re: cymbal boom stand shoot out
I have a Tama Roadpro boom stand.
Pros: Very sturdy and solid, will never fall over, gripped boom arm, good felts.
Cons: More expensive than the others (about 72), no memory locks
Overall: 8.8/10, because I believe it's overpriced. I got mine used for $30 though so it didn't matter to me. But in terms of performance, 9.5/10.
Re: cymbal boom stand shoot out
Good shoot out. By the looks of the shoot out, I like the specs on the DW boom stand. Yamaha is such an "overlooked" brand but I like the fact that you included it in the shoot out. The Pearl sounds a little stetchy. It would be a comedic moment if a cymbal stand falls right on "cue" after a really dynamic sweep of the cymbal. It's never happen to me yet but I've had the tilter arm go limp after a hit and that's almost as funny.
That's for the kudos on the shootout. I'm very flattered by the mention...thanks :) !
