a.) have tons of chops and massive respect for said chops by your peers, but only make a mediocre living playing locally?

Seriously, I would take the money. In this day and age you would be foolish not to.
Show me the money. I'd love to be able to groove so steady that I could make a living at it.

I'd probably go with "A" as well. I'm not concerned about having a ton of chops, but not interested in the road life, money or the problems associated with either.
