I have a soft one, what should I get?
the 4 main materials are felt, rubber, wood and plastic. my personal favorites are wood and rubber, but they are just MY favorites... like a lot of things drum related, it comes down to personal preference :)
plastic and wood do have a bit of a smackier sound though, so you might find them better for metal.
ive invested it quite many beaters, slug beaters (very nice but extremely prices), Pearl beaters (give you an idea of all 4 types of beaters), yamaha felt beaters ( nice and cheap) or my stock gibraltar beaters which i use atm for their quite balanced tone
Wood is probably the best for the genre. If not that then plastic.
i like felt, iron cobra beaters
Depends what sound you're going for. If you want a lot of attack, get a plastic or a wooden one. If you trigger your kick drum, then you could get away with using any type of beater.
If you're talking about feel, that's for you to figure out. What feels right to one drummer can feel completely wrong to another.
trick aluminums!!!!!
Good explanation of the beater types and their effects on sound.
On a related topic, I've been using a DW pedal on a Roland e-kit. The KD-8 bass trigger head is rubber. I like the felt side of the beater because it's a little quieter than the plastic, but after using it a while, I found the felt becoming embedded in the rubber head.
There are some notes on the vdrum forums about using various patches to protect the trigger head from the felt, but I just switched to the plastic side of the beater to solve the problem.
Iron Cobra Wood beaters. Case closed
I use a single kik drum with a double DW pedal system so I am always buying /trying new beaters. I went from a maple ones to the new Tama? that are only 2" s wide with either a choice of rubber, wood, felt that hits the head. I have the rubber but wish I would have gotten the wooden ones. Try them. The fastest beater I have found yet.:drums:
I use iron cobra wood beaters and its great for metal, so are trick pro 1v beaters , :)
I've heard of some metal guys actually taking a couple of quarters, gluing one on the beater and the other on the head.
If it were me, I'd probably get one of those remo kevlar patches and an acrylic ball beater.
they make aluminum patches for the batter head as well. lots of click if thats what you're going for.
