Re: use an e-kit with real cymbals ?

Actually, the top end Rolands have the natural "semi-legit" cymbals, with full response characteristics like the spuns do. Not quite same sound, but real close. Other than that, it depends on your...

    Re: Can I....?

This is what I did, and I haven't replaced heads {I have switched them, though] for over 6 years.

1] I went only top heads on the toms, gave me the extra head to use when needed, and I got richer...

    Re: Practice too much?

I scanned the posts, good points by all. It comes down to you and the time you have, but I do lean to FadesAway thinking. I would just suggest practice when you have the time, mix it up a bit {re...

Yeah, there ARE after-effects, bro. Never had the knife, but have the basic condition. After the knife, you can expect soreness, lack of mobility, but the tingling thing does reduce. So I just...

All I can suggest is a REMO Fiberskin top.

    Re: Is it normal?!

Take off the bottom head and rim. See if that helps, Bonham DID do that at times. He did that for their 4th album, and your issue seems to be the bottom end for your floor tom.

Re: My Method For Tuning Heads-What's Yours?

Ah, sheesh, I must be real old school, but that's OK. I use a cloth strip, run across the outer rim, tightened by the rim, for dampening. Like said, you'd be surprised at the dampening and tuning...

    Re: *Finger Prints On Cymbals*

Up to you, bro, but a quick ammonia diluted solution clears off the oils/etc. from your fingertips.

Now that's the tech. end, I have to ask {in all fun}, where have your fingers been?????????? ...

Re: How did you get into drumming?

Chiming in, dunno why, but in 5th grade wanted to go percussion. Went from there, elem./hs/to pro. Won my medals made my living for a while. Guess I, like most of you "found" the beat, liked it...

    Re: Is it worth it?

I'd generally agree with the stickers. Not worth it.

    Why?

1} extra large tom to haul and set up, and care for.

2} no real added sound, depending on music style or sound, IMO it's just flash...
  11. Re: really need advice - placement of tom 1 and hitting with left hand

Shout back, bro, change of jobs and states, how it is, but finally back to the passion of drums.

    :icon_surprised: TY for the remember!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. Re: really need advice - placement of tom 1 and hitting with left hand

K, cool, prime, you are a "rightie", but like trump said, WHAT is your LH grip? Trad. or modern matched? It makes a difference, bro, in your angle of attack.

    Re: ***Playing Bare Feet***

Never have, never would. Too much hassle to put on shoes on gig break. Shoes give extra power to the pedals.

    Re: Lots of questions!

I would suggest the double-bass technique, using the high-hat foot with a stiff petal that matches the kick-drum stiffness. Run a TRIPLET pattern, R[BASS DRUM}, L { High-hat}, 3rd snare, triplet...

Re: Can You Teach An Old Dog New Tricks?

Agreed, Hedon, I've said same thing. Even older-rustier drummers can "freshen" up by practicing the basics.

Re: how can i clean my drums??

Cheapest gig is 10% cloudy ammonia and water, clean rags, and dry rags to immed. wipe off. I have found Armor-All to be great shine/protect for plastic outer-shells.

Re: Can You Teach An Old Dog New Tricks?

Agreed, rudiments can give you foundations for set-run you never thought U could do. Think a simple triplet, snare/tom/snare, alternate the drums out, fast, perfect fill. Check out some YouTube...

Good point, Oak, about the stage prescence part. If I shine them, I just underneath them, nice comromise, try the slightly crisper sound ya get, but it's not too bright.

    Re: Clean or Not???

So do I. Clean is sharper, more attack, crisper and longer decay. Dirty is delayed, muffled, shorter decay. Try both, see how they sound, I play "signature" dirty, my sound.
