OK, I missed the 'banned'.
If I'm not mistaken the same thing happened on DW forums.
Must be a Mapex curse.
Still, a heck of a barn.
OK, thanks, no problem. In fact, I ordered a Pork Pie vented little squealer from GC a couple of years ago. So it must also have passed through there. Pretty cool.
Still: why do the drums have to...
S4D: that's one awesome place you have there, looks like you could start a shop.
Congrats, you've put some serious work into it, enjoy it!
Interesting - OK, to my ears the 30 degree is tuned a bit higher and has a bit more 'crack' and open sound and the 45 sounds a bit fatter, a more fuzzy attack sound. I like the 30 d better.
OK, I...
Uhmmm, must be the language barrier: KC?
Kuality Check? Kuitar Center? Kuala-lumpur Cymbals? Ka Ching?
I've been wondering about stacking drums like this as well.
Probably chrome (and, much less, drums) can take some abuse but when I check the hardware in my bag you can definitely see more scratches...
I have several Masterwork cymbals (custom and iris series), I like them a lot.
BTW: a Greek friend of mine visited the Masterwork factory some years ago (you can find the video on YouTube).
Small...
Hey Rich,
I've been reading through this thread and I'm sorry what happened.
I haven't been much on this forum but you appear a pretty meticulous guy who does a lot of research, paying attention...
The drummer was Cesar Zuiderwijk, he became a member of Golden Earring in 1970 - and still is after 45 years. Considered one of the best Dutch drummers (ever).
No idea what drums or cymbals he used...
No, that would make the comparison too uneven.
Having said that, the 2 Acro's had coated ambassador as a batter and a hazy as a resonant head.
The Tama had a factory Tama branded coated Evans G1...
Thanks!
I think the difference between the 2 Acro's is mostly the sustain, the 'crack' is very similar. That would make the 14 x 6.5 more versatile as you can dampen the sustain.
BTW:...
It surprises me nowadays people still throw usable items on the street.
Over here, everybody puts stuff they don't want anymore online on Marktplaats.nl (it's like e-bay) and ask about 3 times (or...
OK, I see. I would file a complaint about the QC department failing to notice a non-factory sticker on the snare :icon_mrgreen:
And not hoping to disappoint you but the Tama was 2nd, 3rd was the...
Sure, you'll be remembered forever as Al-13 :icon_mrgreen:
The other 2 snare drums were there but they had the strainers off and were lying on carpet so I'm pretty sure it was just the sound...
OK, here the right order:
1. Acrolite 14 x 5
2. Tama Starphonic Aluminium 14 x 6
3. Acrolite Black Galaxy 14 x 6.5
Hi Michael,
You got some great drums, congrats, I hope you enjoy them!
As far as my - limited - knowledge goes, it seems that thicker shells work better for solid shells than for plie shells...
kick: AKG D-112
snare: Shure SM 57
overheads: 2xShure PG 81
No editing, compression or fx, just a high pass filter on every mic but the kick.
I can hear the ring but also something else:...
Here's a recording of 3 aluminium snare drums, tuned around the same note: 3-aluminium-snares
In random order:
- Acrolite Black Galaxy 14 x 6.5 (a couple of years old)
- late 80s Acrolite 14 x...
For the people interested, 2 videos featuring cheap snare drums:
Millenium 14 x 3.5 Piccolo steel snare drum
Fame acrylic 14 x 5,5 snare drum tuning range
Gretsch Ash kit tuned with a tune-bot drum tuner.
I thought it might be interesting to post a video of an entry level kit with good heads and (I hope) reasonable tuning:

I wouldn't mind trying every head out there. However, I have to buy each head myself and ranging in price from EUR 25 to over EUR 50 it can pretty expensive. Also to find out I don't like the sound...
Hey thanks Itchie! I like the looks of the wooden hoops but I'm sure not everyone will.
Well, apparently I'm a testing phase of my drumming life so I might try and record a video on that. I...
You could check out my video, I tried 6 heads recently: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWdspGBod20&hd=1
