That's a Ludwig Rocker Steel Snare if I'm not mistaken
I don't blame them for trying... but you aren't getting it from me.
I'm absolutely sick over this. A friend of mine took his own life this past Christmas, and Cornell and his associated musicians are without question among the most talented of his generation. If you...
Update: drum is sold.

Up for sale is my Taye Metalworks Vintage Brass Snare, 14x6.5". Shell is 2mm thick. I have it...
Thank you, sir! It took a little bit to dial it it, but it likes being tuned low. I probably should pick up a spare throw off at some point should mine wear out.
What's the story behind this? Caught my eye!
On the subject of Ludwigs, I was disappointed in my search for a steel or stainless steel snare from them.
I know, I know, they make the Supralites. I think, and if they steal this idea cut me a...
I had this happen often with Manu Katche and Tim Alexander sticks. Scared me away from Zildjian sticks. Ages ago Vaters split on me too. ProMark and Victoria Firth I've had good luck with.
There's a pedal out there called the Duallist that does what you're describing, which is operate both beaters with one pedal. I've yet to see one in person, so I can't comment on whether or not they...
Updated family shot. I've been making some changes over the past couple months.
Here is the current assortment.

Pictures will follow, but I just made a day trip up to Portland from where I live and definitely spent a couple hours here.
First, this place is spectacular. I also happened to have the place...
The famous snare is the Ludwig Supraphonic chrome-over-aluminum, 6.5" deep, stock # LM402.
As for the rest of his stuff it's generally big Ludwigs, the exact dimensions Ludwig lists on their site....
You are lucky, sir! I was thinking about making the same trip (I'm south of Boston). Facility looks gorgeous, the former DCP was one cavernous room in a strip mall-type place.
Definitely one of those try - before - you - buy items.
I went to an Axis X single, had to switch out the beater and fiddle with it, but I'm glad I did. I like the utility of the design, makes it...
Josh- he designed the Atlas series. I'm going to grab a couple of these soon.
I like your style, sir!
That's clever! I like that. Gives you the option to take the whole thing off if you want and still have the look of the Virgin kick. The rail console for the Ludwig Atlas series attaches the same way.
I'm in the same boat - woodworking is not something I have a background in so I personally wouldn't attempt to do something like this. If I drilled all day everyday that would be another matter.
A...
I agree. Chad Gracey from the 90s Alternative band Live used to do this.
I started on a 2 up 1 down, went to 3 up 1 down (see Jimmy Chamberlin's kit), then 2 and 2, and after shoulder problems...
Nah I used to live in Florida but moved back up here to MA. As long as you plan ahead and have supplies on hand, it's like getting vacation days courtesy Mother Nature.
That and the cold kills...
According to their website Chris is retired and the company is officially closed. Unless you're buying off the shelf, it isn't a new drum.
Ahoy gents! Thank you!
Lot of drum - related things today... just sold my Ludwig kit, picked up a Black Beauty, and picked up a Zildjian K Custom 20 ride. Pictures soon!
If I'm reading this right, you've tried switching beaters already? I too found the stock beater underwhelming on my X single and swapped in a Yamaha beater. Been happy ever since.
Only other...
If I were in this position I would definitely see what the shop thinks then ask either the manufacturer or someone with a lot of experience in the area (Greg Keplinger comes to mind) what their...
