Re: going to give a double pedal a go.

I started playing double 2-3 months ago... .a couple things that have helped me:

    - Play paradiddles. It really did help develop a controlled hit between both feet in time.

    - Play whatever...

    Re: Guitarist needs your help

There's no simple answer to this. It's a bit like asking "which guitar should one get?"

Some prefer the sound of a Strat. Personally, I love the feel of a Gibson SG. Then you get into ESP, Ibazez,...

    Re: Best China

My first china was a Paiste (swiss) Alpha... I can't recall if it's 16 or 18. Really don't care for it. It sounds more like a strange gong, than a proper trashy china. It now sits on it floor,...

    Re: Removing logos & why?

There's no logo ... but all those gear ridges along the edge are definitely ink. ;)

    Re: Removing logos & why?

I think keeping/preserving the logos is done for similar reasons that we don't remove badges from the shells.

    Re: pdp X7 tom mounts

    Minor update:

I just pulled the lugs off the tom, and bent the arm about 1/8 inch (or less) by hand and remounted the lugs, and retuned the head. Time spent: ~ 12 mins. Problem solved.

Re: Benfits to playing drums to your favorite songs

A large percentage of my kit practice time is playing with a tracklist. I don't vary it much, though... it's usually the same 3-4 songs. I spend a fair amount of time on the practice pad with...

Re: Useing Snare Drums that came with kits.

My stock snare sounds nice to me, but I occasionally look around ebay for a 13" x 6.5 snare... not for a different sound, but for ergonomic reasons. It's easier for me to play on a 13 vs 14 and sit...

    Re: pdp X7 tom mounts

One of the mounts on my Concept kit is exactly like that... I didn't think much about the tuning ramifications (or that it might be a defect) until I saw this post. Haven't noticed a problem, but it...

Re: TAMA and DW...a brief history...

    It's absolutely a good thing.

I think sometimes people get too caught up on Country of Manufacture. Certainly, China produces some really substandard consumer goods... and so does America.

Re: TAMA and DW...a brief history...

I just did a quick price check of a 4pc Starclassic set against a 5pc DW Performance... the tama was $1900, and the DW $2100. Not really an outrageous price difference.

    Certainly you can easily...

I'd be more worried about seeing Blue Suede Shoes and Melt With You on the same set list. ;)

    Re: Fills

This is sort of any old thread, but I thought the above was such good advice it was worth agreeing with.

Just because drums don't have to play in key, as the rest of the band does, doesn't mean...

Re: Triplets versus Triplet --- nomenclature hell

    Don't overthink it.

A basic standard triplet is simply 3 notes in the space of one; in terms of transcription, there's not delay, emphasis, or retard + rushed note. It's the same thing as playing...

Re: Looking for a good, trashy china

I have a Paiste Alpha china... I wish I'd bought a Wuhan instead - they really are just a great, trashy perfect china. And affordable.

Re: New Member... and new PDP Kit

I'm using G2 on the toms, Evan EC2 Reverse Dot on the snare, and the bass is still completely stock. The resos are also still stock. The G2s have a bit less ring than the stock single plys, but are a...

Re: New Member... and new PDP Kit

Thanks for the kind words. :)

The tom sizes are 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 22 bass and 14x5.5 snare. I really don't use the 16" much, but it was about the same price to get the 7 piece, than to get the 5...

Opps - sorry about the pic size - I made them a lot smaller now. :icon_redface:

New Member... and new PDP Kit

So... I suppose I'll combine a "hi, I'm a new member" post with a "show us your kit" post.

At the risk of dating myself, I've played piano & keyboards for 20+ years... did the synth thing in a...
