haha its okay just count a lot and practice a lot with music. also listen to a lot of jazz and it will make you better at listening to a group while you are playing
Are the tom mounts universal though?
Its a question of the sound you are looking for I would try a few or birch and maple or any other woods and see which one sounds the best to you
I would recommend it. It would help you be able to get into the groove a lot easier. I picked up the saxophone as a second instrument for about a year and a half and it really helped with my jazz...
another good cleaning tip is to use windex on your shells and rims. It gives them a really nice shine especially under lights. Make sure you don't get it on the heads though

Feet are very important as well as lefthandlead said but as far as chops go I would study the book and get lots of repetition of perfect rudiments and you'll be set

it depends, when I am learning something yes but when I have what I am playing memorized on drumset at least I don't. My drumline music is a different story I count all of the time.
