    Re: Birthday gift :D REVIEWS?!

I own it. Heavy but solid.

Here is my insight on cymbal cases, having owned and gigged them for almost 20 years.

A well-made bag (my preference is Protection Racket) is better (for me) for the...

Re: Something's Wrong w/ This Picture

The fun lesson here is that it's possible to find a smoking GC deal because they messed up the model, or don't know what they have.

This, however, is the downside, perhaps... thinking you got a...

Re: sober by tool, is it just me?

Danny Carey drum parts are an exercise in four-way independence. I would agree that Sober is one of his less challenging open/closed hi-hat experiments (IIRC, "Eulogy" has a pretty wild one during...

    Re: Ludwig Atlas'

There are some bona fide design improvements with the Atlas stands. Nice stuff.

They even allow the "feet" on the cymbal stands to rotate if you are going flat-based, so one stand can hover...

Re: What concerts have you been to ?

Wow. If you include acts that were on the same bill as my band... I'd list a few hundred. You probably never heard of ANY of them. ;)

    Bigger acts:
    Metallica
    Allman Bros
    Van Halen
    Rush
    Tool...

    Re: Craviotto snare drum

Late to the game... there's two solid-ply competitors to Crav (and cheaper) that I thought of:

    Witt
    Longo

There are others... I'll post again if I think of them. Check these out on the 'Bay.

Re: Let's talk about breaking stuff

There is a great drummer podcast that I recently saw where a successful session drummer talks about this exact thing - in the context of "mixing yourself live".

The point was this... you really...

Re: Drum Dial or Tension Watch

I have a DD, and I just use a quarter or nickel. Easier and faster than adjusting the spacer, IMO, and easy to store!

    Re: Snare in the round

My hats off to you for having the sense to measure the roundness - especially when buying a USED drum. Many people never even think of this if they are having problems with tuning or seating a drum...

    Re: Most Versitile Cymbals

Try out the Paiste Giant Beats... very versatile IMO and a little warmer than 2002's.

    Re: Best jazz cymbals?

Paiste has a lot of options:
Giant Beat, Formula 602, Traditionals, Signatures, Dark Energy

If you're adventurous, the "brighter" stuff would be
    2002's and RUDE's

Re: Don't ya just hate when......

    The Ploughman is correct.

Gutting beautiful vintage drums - with history no less - to maximize your "take" on the parts is just greedy and wrong.

These sellers on eBay are obvious, and IMO are...
  13. Re: Musical drumming with MIDI drums and Ableton - How much interest in this?

Ratty - w/o getting too detailed... is it a matter of using Ableton to host the Battery kits and then off I go? Or did you ditch the Battery library and go strictly with Ableton's? I'll do some...

    Re: Frank Zappa...

    Joe's Garage...

I bought a "sampler" disc about 10 yrs ago called Strictly Commercial that covers many eras... I think you could start there and decide which albums might appeal to you.
  15. Re: Musical drumming with MIDI drums and Ableton - How much interest in this?

    I love it!

Here's my take... if you break this down in a way that encourages a "newbie" to try it out, who knows how many converts you may get.

I personally feel this is an untapped niche. I...

Re: To click or not to click

Exactly... it would be "another take". :icon_wink:

Seriously, tho, like an earlier post... some genres (and parts of the business) rely on this way of recording and performing.

    Why rail against...

Re: To click or not to click

Sorry, but that's ego talking right there.

Do you think the Edge lucked out and has the perfect timekeeper... or do you think Larry uses a click live?

U2 - the top 10 (top 5 maybe) largest live...

Re: To click or not to click

I think context is key. Hit records start at 100 and end at 100 (generalizing to make a point). Meaning the guys who make 'em can and will play to a click. This makes life easier for all musicians...

    Re: Trick Drums

There are people who swear by metal drum sets (toms and BD). Trick for aluminum and Ludwig for stainless steel are two of the most obvious I could think of.

Yes, they are likely louder compared...
  21. Re: MIDI Problem (I'm full of problems aren't I?)

    Should be:

Instrument - Yamaha (MIDI OUT) goes into

Interface - Tascam US122L (MIDI IN) then

Interface - Tascam US122L (MIDI OUT) connection goes into

    Computer (via USB?)
