I was thinking of doing that also, but what if it's a place that you don't know and find it's pretty difficult or even impossible? I've always just tuned at home and just tweaked at the venue, but...
what do you guys do when playing out at gigs with regard to tuning? Do you just tune at home to an overall good sound, or do you get to there early and tune for specific venue?
Thanks Olimpass. I'm watching Celebration Day while writing this and those cymbals(and Drums) sound awesome.Just a small shame Jason needed a double pedal to emulate his dads amazing right foot
Did J.B. use Paiste throughout his career? As I was just wondering if Jason also used them in the Celebration Day concert.
I have seen previously mentioned about where Johns old Acrolite kit was....
no way, mate. I can take criticism, it's just a bit tricky when you think one way and you (sort of) think you're right and other people think another. I'm always looking for advice, even if it's...
I want to thank everyone who has offered advice.
I jammed with the guys today and all is well, the main man was having a bad day, and after having thought he actually came to the same conclusion...
ok,ok.....it's a little pedantic,eh!!!!
Something else I just thought of,is, for them, th loudest drum was th bass drum,so I started using heel down, which was still too loud.I think I'm fighting a losing battle.
Unless,I'm in denial and...
I'm guessing you guys came in halfway through the thread. I've asked for advice on being quieter. I just don't consider I'm particularly loud in the first place
the thing is though, rick, is I'm starting jazz from scratch. I ain't got a clue. These guys were probably around other players their whole lives. I just need some pointers that isn't Youtube
I have played in Rock bands before, but this is kind of fusion of blues/fusion/funk.
With regards a 'jazz teacher',i meant someone that teaches jazz
I've been thinking of getting a Jazz teacher for that reason, even before this thing with the new band. Do you think that'd help?
Cheers Dude, I think I've ascertained that.
I was really looking at getting some thoughts on getting the volume down.
I just thought, do any of you guys have an idea of decibel levels of their playing. I can borrow a reader from work.
Yes..it's bothering me that much!

This is the thing mate, neither do I. That's why I've got such an issue with it.
Does anyone think that playing with traditional grip would help? I've been playing with the trad for a little while and although not anywhere as competent as with matched, it does seem to make a...
Thanks guys. I'm going to try to pull it back a bit. What I'm a little worried about though, is that in the act of softening up I'll kind of lose my 'feel'. I mean also isn't the point of having...
I've just had a first session with a new band which is really exciting. However, I was told I play way too loud. I've never thought this and to be honest I was thinking it was mainly to do with the...
sorry Russ, not sure what ya mean, headphones for what?
Update; budget stretched to a MPX 13x6 have put a coated EC2 on it and I'm sooo happy with it. Not far off exactly the 'singular' kind of sound I'm after. No extra damping and have it tuned right up....
Did Steve Gadd give them to you personally? How did you get them? I'm really interested.
fantastic idea and great playing. did you do it over skype or just all played along with the original? I'm really interested
