I finally had a few outdoor gigs this past month. The DW satin black looks awesome in the (indirect) sunlight:

The Russ Miller Groove Wedge. I like it - with some qualifiers.

The main thing it helps with is rim knocks when I don't want to (or don't have time to) turn the stick around to butt end...
DW Design again. There are more in the DW thread if anyone is interested.

When I decided to start posting again, I requested the change. My name before was my full first and last name, which I'm not comfortable using any longer. I had students' parents googling my name and...
I do still have the MCANs. I am contemplating just getting a Keller shell 16" floor tom and having someone stain it a close blue and be done with it. I am going to start using that kit regularly for...
Last weekend I sold 3 kits (Yamaha SCB, Crush Acrylic, and Pearl VSX) while I had a horrible flu, which made for an interesting time. I put a few bucks in the bank and added this beauty as my gigging...
I used everything but the 14" floor tom on "Magic Man". I should have that video processed sometime before the weekend. Thanks!
Thanks guys! I like the retro vibe I get from the Black...
Thanks!
I finally got all the toms together and put new heads on everything. I would never take all this out to a gig, but for recording it's kind of fun.
That's 10x7, 12x8, 13x9, 14x12,...
Since you called it...

I've since bought the 18" floor tom and the 13" mounted is arriving today....
I finally got my LED light can out to a gig and under my floor tom. I also just splurged for the 18x16 floor tom.

Forgive me if you've seen this, but it seems timely:

Agreed. Loving that finish.
^^^ When I was a kid, I hated sparkle finishes, or anything not black for that matter. I have come full circle and thanks to DrumChat and sparkles and Pearls are now my favorites. That Champagne kit...
I loved those stripped looks from Gretsch in the Catalina line. The mahogany they used sounds great on the kick and toms.
I always like the various striped kits Gretsch had in the Catalina line. I'm loving that black on silver. Nice choice.
I know I posted pics just a few pages ago, but no one has ever complained of...
Wow, that WMP DW is gorgeous kickinit. What's the wood configuration?
It's been a while since I posted a pic here, so I'll give you my clear acrylics under random stage lighting. I'm still trying...
I never really cared for white kits for the longest time, then I watched a lot of Benny Greb videos and the White Marine Pearl started to really look great to me. You have a really beautiful example...
Nice kit Bob and welcome to the forum!
I too am a huge Yamaha fan. Good looking kit.
Thanks Shawn!
Here's what I think will end up being the working version of this kit. I've drug a rack out to gigs the last couple of weekends, and I think a simple 4 piece will be what I settle on. Check it out......
It seems like since the insides are totally smooth, the sound bounces around way more than with porous wood. It's like there is a more full sound but it's not necessarily much louder. I think I can...
I will concur about the Crush acrylics. Mine do not sound louder necessarily, just way more full.

I love this finish. Very cool my man.
That was really cool. Even though it was "of the week," they kept it up for a month and a half. I got a free one-year subcription to DRUM! as well.
My Catalina Maple ebony lacquer kit did the exact same thing. When sunlit, they were definitely black, but under incandescent stage lighting, they went purplish. It wasn't as pronounced in person,...
I am loving both of these finishes! Interestingly enough, before I joined this forum I had a general dislike of all wrapped finishes. My mind was quickly changed and I gig out a wrapped kit almost...
