Was on my motorcycle, cut off by a chick in a bmw too busy to look up from her cell phone!
First full gig with my new set! Been out since July with a bad wrist fracture. Started back doing open jams and church gigs. Finally recovered enough to do a full 3 hour gig. First real outing for my...
I'm with ya brotha! I get a lot of mileage out of this kit. Yamaha Manu Katche 10/13/16". Great sounding, easy tuning. They've out lasted a lot of much more expensive and exotic drums. And, they fit...
Like the Concepts a lot. Been toying with buying a set of the birch ones. Is that a 20" bass? My Rogers set made me a real believer in 12/16 toms. Like the separation.
It was similar, but no where near the same. Wish it was closer, i'd love to add a 14" Tom or snare! Been searching a couple years now, with no success.
They're great kits. I keep thinking I should have one!
But, if you meant my set in the above post, it's an early '70's SSB. Emerald Green Pearl, very rare...
Just got done with a workout on them. What a fun set to play.......
Redid the practice room. Radio Kings are bagged from gigging, so I dug out my Gretsch and set them up in it. Fun change. They really play differently then the RK's...
Added a Evens Level 360 Emad...
Had these out for their first rock gig this afternoon. Couple turns of the key, and a little more bass drum muffling. They nailed the sound. What a great, versatile kit for the...
It'll be satisfying to bring them back to a respectable state. Not going for perfect, you can't undo what's done. No matter how I patch and fill, they've been molested. But they'll be made into nice...
They're interesting. No signs of ever having silver sealer. Sharper edges then I've seen on SSB drums. All had mic jacks. They sounded great, and tuned really quickly.
Check out my last refinish...
Love natural finish kits. Got an old set of stripped Gretsches I'm working on. Watch out, Charlie Watts!http://i933.photobucket.com/albums/ad173/wdonley/IMG_1283.jpg
Here's my favorite sets. In order. None of them were over...
There's something really fun about taking cheap, funky finds and rocking them..... That bass was $15.00......
Latest funky setup. Swap meet finds, both of them. Less then $100 total invested, and the 10 x 26 is a true *bass* drum! Been playing along with the Meters, and Galactic, and just grinning ear to...
Here's a video from Sunday afternoon. Not a drum heavy piece, but it's what I got.... Couldn't embed it, sorry.... http://youtu.be/n7i7GJpUo8A
Just saw you're from Castaic. almost a local to us...
Yep! Has no right to sound as good as it does, but it does! Just a full warm boom, with great dynamic response. It's a 9 lugger.....
I've got some nice Gretsch's, but there's just something really fun about playing these Radio Kings. And, they always sound great. May have to get a cradle for the 14". I prefer lightweight stands,...
Radio Kings on the job today. It's an event weekend at the wineries around here. "Roll out the Barrels". They're all doing featured barrel tasting. Means lotsa gigs. We're booked fri/sat/sun. Today...
Afternoon of the audition, they called with directions. *And*, they said there was a set, don't bring mine. Get there, and it's an older Yamaha Stage Custom. Worked out ok. Used my snare and cymbals....
Good pick up. It's not real visible! Swan leg hihat. Lightweight, folds completely, fast action. My standard gigging pedal. It's offset here by a PDP BOA bass pedal. Gigging, usually a Camco strap...
It's lacquer. Faux marble. It was a factory finish for a while....... Here's a slightly earlier catalog page with it. I've got the clamp-on tom mounts for it. Just don't like using them. The RIMS...
Gonna go all Jay Bellarose on them!
Auditioning for an "Americana" gig tomorrow. From Jerry Jeff to John Mellancamp. Taking this one. How much more Americana can it get? Radio King '40's drums, RK '50's snare. I love this set.......
