Buddy Rich always one ups everyone
So awesome to see Buddy doin' it years ago. I never knew that... thought Tommy Lee might have been the first well known drummer to do it.
I'd love to hear about all the ones who tried and failed, and what happened in the process. It's like the Wright Brothers - Takes a brave soul to load up your kit and head for the skies!

yeh I thought tommy was the first one to pull that off too, I had no idea buddy rich did it first
I wonder if the simpsons did it
i love how it breaks down into that hybrid dubstep/grime beat
Ok so I knew about Tommy Lee but Buddy? WOW!
Yes - I hear ya - WOW! Just knowing what he was like you'd think he'd turn this "flyin-drum-kit" idea down flat and think it was Rock-n-Roll stunting etc.........unless of course he thought of it. And readers, please don't take my comment in the negative.......I'm just saying.......it's Buddy I'm talking about

Actually Tommy didn't fly really, he mostly just spun, cool but not the same. Joey just tilted, he never was upside down. Again cool but not the same. Everyone does it different, and that was a really cool way of doing it. Was he hanging on cables? How was Travis flying like that?

JR, that was nice of you to restrain yourself on Travis Barker, but then you did go on to bash his fans pretty hard.
Most pro drummers realize that they have holes in their abilities, and they are working to improve. I read an article in the August Modern Drummer magazine where Jo Jo Meyer gave a compliment to Meg White. He said, "Meg White can express something at the drums that some guys who have ten thousand times the amount of chops can't express." Jo Jo Meyer was making the point that playing to the music of the band is more important than having all the chops in the world.
I think that anytime that someone can play evenly even though dealing with changing forces on their body, it is impressive.

Sorry Pastor Bob, didn't mean to offend, what I meant was that most of there fans are musically illiterate, as are most fans of any pop music.

I heard that Tommy Lee actually got the idea from a guy here in minnieapplelips.
Back in the 80's there was a really popular local band here call chamellian.
not sure if i spelled it right. ( the lizard who changes colors).
anyway, this drummer (Charlie) had a revolving drum set and i think it spun upside down too. I was just under the legal age to get into bars then. i never saw it. .. There was also another famous person in that group...we all know him today as Yanni.
They were a progressive power rock band.
