I know most drummers place their China cymbals to the right, behind the floor tom area. But I was wondering how many of us here put their chinas to the left, next to the hi-hat? I don't know why, but thats the way I set it up one day, and I liked it, easier to reach and it was right there to accent a beat on the hats. IDK, maybe I'm weird. So does anyone else do this too??

I have one of my chinas over there, and yes, it is very convenient. The other one is above the floor tom though.

I've wouldn't be comfortable having the china cymbal on the left. Not sure why. I guess it would just take getting used to.

It also depends if you are recording. I keep my china away from the overheads. The natural shimmer and tone cuts through like a razor blade and give about as much problems with overheads as the hihat.

Well I guess I have my china in the "traditional" spot. But here's my entire cymbal set-up.

I like the china on the right just off center above my rid, it is at the best place for me to accent from any position without having to jump across the kit to get to it, also on my V-drum kit I can place it anywhere on my seven triggered cymbals pads so sometimes I have one on the left also, but it really works best for me to have it off center to the right.

I was running 3 chinas for awhile, 2 of those on the left. Now I only use 1 over my FT's

On my right side (I'm right handed) above my 14" floor tom, next to my ride on the same angle and level so I can do the Neil Peart ride china combo.
