a double stroke roll is also called an open roll, this means 2 bounces on each stick in the roll (thats for each stroke) and an closed roll is just as many bounces as you can get off of a stroke. 5 stroke roll is just 5 strokes on the drum (LRLRL or RLRLR) and can be open or closed.
I really wish that we could actually show the pictures in here...

five stroke roll is RRLLR or LLRRL all rolls are double stroked unless it says single stroke in the name (eg. single stroke 4)

Closed roll? I always thought it was called a press roll or a buzz roll.

    But yeah, all double strokes.

a closed roll is a buzz roll, it means there are more bounces, not that you press harder

I think you're mistaken Daemon. To get more bounces, you have to press the stick down more.

Yeah, but you want your bounces to come in faster and create more notes. Not bounce around slowing down and getting lighter.

A buzz or closed roll has more uncontrolled bounces. For a given stroke there might be 2 bounces, 3 bounces, or even a single bounce. Single, double, 5-stroke, etc have percise controlled number of bounces for a given stroke.
