Default Lugs are kind of binding.

Not sure what to call this but the pther day I changed out my heads and noticed that some of my lugs were not tightening down smoothly. Some of them wen tin smooth and some seemed like they were getting stuck. One of my bass drum lugs would not even go in. I had to press pretty hard to get it to take. The rods look fine, but looking into the lug itself I noticed a little of what looked like stripping. What to do? Is it expensive to fix them or get them replaced? What coul dhave caused this so I can aoid it in the future? Thanks!

ive replaced lugs before, it depends how many your getting and what kind of lugs your needing to replace. they range from 3-7.50 each. avoid tightening them too fast or pushing down on the gaskets when you adjust them from time to time to check tension. im guessing these are gretsch lugs so you might want to get in touch with the company first, but theres always replacement lugs available from many sites

acq1, Russ is right. There should not be a problem getting replacement lug inserts, especially if the kit is relatively new. You don't have to replace the entire lug, just the insert. It sounds like you may have cross threaded your tensions rods when inserting them into the lugs. If it looks like the threads are stripped, get the new lug inserts that you need and don't force the tension rods in, or you could end up stripping those too. When you reinsert your tension rods, always made sure they are lubricated, and when I insert tension rods, I always turn them slowly backwards first until I feel them engage the thread. Once they engage the threads you can begin tightening, and you chances of cross threading are much less.

Would I need to take off the whole lug to replace the inserts, or do they just go in from the top. Never done this before. Thanks!

You will have to remove the lug, the insert goes in from the back of the lug and is held in place with a spring.

Also remember to use lug lube on all of them.
