Talking My new / used Sabian B8 Hi-Hat

Finally got my used Sabian B8 hi-hats in the mail!

Bought these for $31 off eBay, so I think it's a nice deal. Beats having no hi-hat.

They are a little dirty. Should I leave like that or buy some cleaner (don't know what to get)?

Hope I set it up right LOL.

Nice buy RR. As to whether to clean them, it depends on how you feel about your cymbals. Some believe that you should never clean them, and that the "dirt" build up causes the cymbals to mellow with age. Others prefer to clean their cymbals on a regular basis to keep them looking new and to keep the cymbal sounding like new. If you do decide to clean them, just make sure you get a cleaner that is formulated for the entry level cymbals. If you use something like Groove Juice on them, you could wreck the finish.

I like them. Beats nothing at all.

At first I wasn't liking it, but upon listening to a recording I did, I realized that the blow back or whatever from having my drums facing the corner was distorting what I was hearing.

But, I'm thrilled. $31 for these babies and they are in great condition. Heck, aside from the dirt they seem like new.

Out of curiosity, what would be the next level in cymbal? Sabian AAX?

RR, the next level of cymbal isn't so much a matter of a special brand, or series, it's more a matter of moving up to pro quality cast cymbals, and the Sabian AAX series would certainly be one of the choices there. The B8 cymbals are cut out of a sheet of metal that is 8% bronze, while the pro quality cymbals are made in a casting, and are made with 20% bronze.

Yeah, I almost bought the set for about $50 2 days prior, but I decided to wait to see if I could get a deal that would make my wife smile.

Awesome, RR! I had a pair of those same hats and they sounded darn good for "beginner" cymbals. I think the hi hats are the strongest part of the B8 series.

Technically the next level to move up to after B8 would be Xs20, as they are the intermediate level cymbals by Sabian. But as PB said, you should skip over intermediate cymbals and go straight to pro, since it'll save money in the long run. That's what I did, and I have no regrets.

    Enjoy the "new" hi hats!

Don't forget Zildjian ZHT's. They are 12% tin as compared to 8% on B8's, but are still sheet cymbals.

Awesome Rebelred. That's what I had to start with. The 16" & 18" thin crashes sound good also. Almost forgot, welcome to DrumChat!
