Lots of fine drums around here! I got a nice little thing in the post yesterday. I dont know how to upload pictures here, but you all know what a LP Gen II bongo looks like. My new bongo is a Palisades Park mahogany, and even if it looks like a Gen II, it does not SOUND like one. One reason for that is new and very good skins. So now I finally have a bongo that is in the same league as my congas and the rest of the stuff. I think I should mention one thing: That drum has perfect bearing edges, something that cannot be said about newer LPs. And that makes a lot of difference.

If you don't know what that is by name, it is a simple Irish frame drum. I love playing it, though!

Hey, we all had to start from somewhere!! Try getting some shakers, a cabasa, a tambourine, a scraper, clave sticks....stuff to put in a bag so that when you get invited to a drum circle you'll have to start thinking of specific rhythms for particular instruments. Then, next thing you'll know, you'll be acquiring congas, bongos and a whole bunch of stuff that you never knew existed....but will have endless fun playing! Works for me!

Had to squeeze this lot in between a bass amp and the back door at this New Year's Eve party! Thank God for the Travel Congas and mini-timbales! Not seen are the windchimes and triangle on the left boom arm and big splash on the right one for the timbales.

    Hey Drumbledore--

Tight fit for all the toys, man! (Wonder if that's why the tablas sound "wobbly?" -- Couldn't resist that one, mate!) Looks great, though!

Lol. thanks man. Yeah, when laying them seated on the floor with the donut-ring cushions (called chutta), usually the dayan or danya (the wooden drum) is tilted slightly forward to accomodate the finger technique. I was using the tabla only for the quiet bits here and there (besides, I'm a novice at this stage, no way am I able to rip out the classic rhythms yet), but them and the windchimes give a nice texture.

I got the inspiration to set them this way courtesy of this guy, Bob Muller. Mind you, he sets the banya (the metal drum) on the right and has two danyas...although a number of conventionally right-handed people do that, it's a bit rare to see it on video, much less a Westerner. Enjoy.
