Am looking to buy a Mapex Black Panther Steel Snare but am stuck between the 5.5" and the 6.5" models. I have a Pearl World Series 6.5" snare at the moment but would like to know what the advantages of the more shallow option. Sound wise appear similar but think the 6.5" is more portable across various genres, but would appreciate advice on this.

maybe it's just me, but I tend to like the volume of a 6.5 over a 5.5. you are still getting the sensitivity the 5.5 is offering, just a little extra depth and presence.

Thanks Russ, thats what I was hoping for , i.e. the volume and I also like the depth, was really looking for someone with experience of both, as I was going from the sound on the Mapex website and it is not always as accurate as the "real" thing.
