I'd sit down with a pencil and paper and write out the structure. Physically count out what the bar structure is and write it down. Count out and write out the unison rhythms and hits. Put it all together.

The whole song is in 4/4. I only counted one phrase, at 2:10 in the song that was an odd phrase (5 bars). Most of the unison hits start on odd beats, that's probably why your getting lost.

I could write it out for you, or at least get you started, if you think it would help.

    Good luck!

Are you lost on how to play the fills or where they are?

I'd concentrate more on the structure rather than trying to nail every fill. The song is still serviceable without all the fills. Play YOUR fill in the space provided. Over time you'll be able to hit the more complicated ones, but don't get hung up over the ones that he's playing.

those licks are not easy... but youll get them...

this is not specific to this song but my way of learning things... see if you can play it with media player.. if not download the video from youtube... and play that... then slow it down... media player has this option.. slow it down... it will sound like hell, but will be easier to understand the timing... start a couple bars before the fill. and count the quarter notes to get a feeling of where it starts... its how i learn tons of stuff, and it works everytime.. be sure to write down what you think is going on... once you get one fill, drill it into the ground until your muscle memory takes it in, and then youve got it for life!!!

I am also willing to write out a few things. Is that what you're looking for though? Or are you looking for general descriptions or tips?

Try to break it down into sections. Listen for what the HH is doing,, then find out what the BD is doing, listen for the snare etc. Then put it all together and you should be good to go.

    Best of luck.

Primus are so goofy! Russ, I agree with Exotic Matter (tremendous screen name by the way). Learn the song structure, etc... and just fake the fills at first. Once you have the outline of the song down solid where you don't have to think about it, work on the fills themselves.

i dampened my toms to get that real EQ'd sound they have for toms and bass. i'm hoping i can try to narrow in on their sound a little and play along better, cause my toms wont boom all over the place as much. i got the basic beat down i think though, so im optimistic about it

Ahh, Primus, good stuff!! I remember playing to that song waaaaaaaay back in the day! He's not really playing anything too complicated, but there are a lot of changes and and stuff and if you don't really know the songs, it's going to be very hard to play it. The others have already given you some good advise... my only advice would be to keep listening to the song until you really feel it. That's usually what I do and then the rest comes naturally.
