Can I Use Kitchen Magnets? Will Mags Harm Cymbals? Any Alternatives? Need To Do In A Pinch & Can't Get To Store... :(

I'm pretty sure kitchen magnets won't stick to your cymbals. Because predominately your cymbals are made out of metals that have little or no iron content in them whatsoever. Thus, being unable to be magnetically attracted to anything.

How do you deaden cymbals anyway? I've never heard of trying to deaden cymbals...

its easy....take tap like ducktap or w/e and make the middle stick up and then stick it under the crash tords the middle. u can put it on ur tom ...put a peace on the bottom in the middle and then a peace on the front up on the top..and ur floor tom just do the same as ur tom. then you can put it on ur snare drum to on the top of it put a peace on the top, bottom and sides ...like on the acutal drum ok ok if you dont under stand well then yeah lol

You should be able to place strips of duct tape on the bottom of the cymbal across the tune grooves. I've done this before on an old Camber ride cymbal.

by god man, dont tape your cymbals. unless they are poop cymbals. are you trying to mute them for practicing? or lose some overtone? if your trying tomute them, find some clothes pins or big paper clips and stick a piece of cloth or better yet thin rubber. on top of it.

NEVER EVER EVER put tape on a pro quality cymbal. That crud will never come off. In a pinch, try the clothespin thing, but the question is still: Why????

ive had good success with masking tape, doesn't leave a long term residue (as long as you change it every few weeks) and it still lets the cymbal have a nice attack, but deadens the ringing. I place strips from the center of the cymbal to the rim in a circle making a * works very well, and doens't modify the sound to the point it makes a cymbal sound bad.

Well, I've used duct tape on my cymbals before, and it has never left any marks or anything bad on it.

Maybe they just make duct tape better up here in the great white north.

LOL by the way its -36 today.

I use duct tape on a zilbel, just to lessen some of the after-ring. Before I taped it (just a 5 cm strip on the inside) it used to ring for about 5 minutes after it was played ... loudly. Now it settles down a mite quicker.

    NO DUCT TAPE! EVER!

use electrical tape, on the bottom of your cymbal 4-8 inches from the edge place the tape to made a square of hexagon or some shape that is even on all sides. I always do a hexagon. It works great, and if you want get yellow or orange electrical tape. It does the trick (learned it from my friends dad who owns a recording studio and has toured as the sound man for multiple bands)
I really wish that we could actually show the pictures in here...
