I used Vic Firth 5A for a long time, years. Just a couple months ago I bought a pair of Silverfox 7A and a pair of 5A. That's my stick now!

I think a few of you guys know me....the Regal Tip 8A Jeff Porcaro Signature. To me, it feels like the ideal mix of the balance and lightness of a 7A with the strength and solidity of a 5A.

Now does it make me play like him? Ummm...nope, not in this lifetime anyway, lol.

I just bought 2 sets of ProMark Shira Kashi™ Oak 747 Neil Peart.

I like that they're lighter yet still durable, but not used to the smaller grip. I might wrap them up.

I have about 20 brand new pairs right now and probably 16 different brands, sizes, and weights. I just have never found a stick and was like wow this is the only stick I will ever use. I like to change it up. I only use wood tips for gig's and I buy whatever is on sale for practice which is usually nylon tip.

Although now thinking about it I must admit I did use a few pairs of silver fox brand sticks (a few others have mentioned) a few years back and thought they were very nice and lasted much longer than others. The store I used to get em in went OOB and I never looked for em online or anything but they were very impressive sticks and stood out to me plus the price was the lowest I could find which was odd.

Oh the good old days of drumline. I wish I could go back and do it all again.

I am an ever faithful user of Ralph Hardimons with wood tip. Best marching sticks on the planet.

I recently mentioned to a music store manager that I would like to try the new Boso bamboo drum sticks and wondered why no one around here carried them. I was reticent to buy them untried because I heard they were $15+ per pair and I didn't want to invest that kind of money without having some idea if I would like them. He told me he would check into it. Some days later he came up with a couple of pair for me to try saying he knew who the distributor was and managed to get some. They were 5A in Natural (light) and Strata (medium) weights. They are also available in Dark (heavy). Their info is on line. I have waited to comment on them because I wanted to "battle test" them. I had a gig last night and they got that test.

My ideal stick is a Regal 5B maple with a natural tip. These are very light and very durable and I love the balance. These Boso 5A's were a little different feel. The Darks were a little heavy for my taste but the Naturals were very similar to my Regals in weight. I would have preferred to try them in 5B as the feel was a little off but, in doing some research, I found that they retail for only $9.49/pr. so I will probably get some. I gave them the full test, lots of rim shots and heavy ride cymbal playing. This is only one gig, mind you, but they held up very well. There are a few marks on the shaft and neck and almost no tip ware. What I like also is that they are environmentally sustainable as they are made of bamboo which is very fast growing.

The result is that I think I will try them in 5B Natural just to see if they will work for me. The price is not bad and I think they have a lot of promise.

vater 5a sugar maple, good tones weight and diameter for me, though I may have to reconsider if I played any more cause they are not incredibly durable. (pro mark hickory 5a pro-grip are in the wings).

also steve gadd nylon tip and elvin jones sig on occasion.
