On the far right is what looks like a Starclassic Bubinga. On the far left there are two Ludwigs, one looks like an older Acrolite and the other looks like an older chrome over brass supraphonic. Those would probably be my favorites. But there are aome nice DW's in there. The other one that caught my eye is the snare just above the Ludwigs with the "gold" hardware and tube lugs.

If I counted correctly, there are 30 snares...most of which are "high-dollar". Even if you averaged a "low" estimate of $500 each, your sitting on a goldmine.......hope you have a good security system......I think mine would look like Fort Knox.

Great collection....it's good to know that someone has a worse case of GAS than I do.

Lovely! The first time i've seen that pattern used on an edge, and perhaps on any dw snare- but it is really nice! Quality goods there, good find.

Those are some nice picks! I especially like the Degrasso, the brass really makes it stand out quite nicely. Like a big gold nugget!

Lol, I found the shelves on Ebay for £50, chopped out a few 'uprights' and hey presto, instant Snare Storage ! Ikea sell the units pretty cheap over here, lots of em' around, very useful. Sadly it is now full of studio gear, and the snares cased, practicality over aesthetics...

    Russ,

I've change the heads on the snare since that pic, just haven't taking any new pics of the snare. Right now I'm using Remo Coated Ambassador and a Remo Ambassador Hazy bottom with a 30 snare wire. I think I might like the Evans Hd Dry top, but I just change over to the Remo's, so I'm going to give them some time.

The silky oak is really neat looking grain, actually looks nothing like oak. I am not familiar with Dixon, is this the same Dixon who used to make affordable hardware and drums, used to be a Gibraltor type company in the 80's. Every drummer owned at least one piece of Dixon hardware, in fact I have some double braced stands that still serve me well 30 years later.

I think it is the same company, yes. From what I understand their drums were at the budget end of the market, but they have been trying to move up.

Odd thing about that snare, nobody else seems to have one. I won it in a magazine competition last summer, but it's never featured on Dixon's website as an available product or anywhere else other than a couple of promo vids on Youtube and some vague refs in German sites. I can't find any reviews, or anyone selling it. In fact if you do a google search for 'Dixon Artisan Silky Oak', the top two hits are my posts on here about it! (probably top three once this thread is indexed). I'm begining to wonder if I have the only one they made!

Could very well be a one off. I do quite a bit of playing with wood, and like I said, I have never seen anything like that in raw form, let alone a nice lookin snare like you won. I am guessing it is very bright and very loud due to the hardness of the oak.

I remember in the 80's Dixon put out a snare made out of exotic something, the shell was one inch thick. The hardware was cheap and ugly, but I could see their desire to build cool snares when no one else was trying to get creative like that.

Hey, that's a great score. Nice looking drum. Bet it sounds great too, I've got to start looking around for an Slingerland snare some time.
