    Default Cymbals Choice

    Hello people!
    I've been wanting to change my Paiste Pst5 cymbals to something more professional since i saved up some cash.
    I really love Zildjian Cymbals.
    I'm into progressive metal (Symphony X)
    And I also enjoy playing Steve Gadd and Dave Weckl.
    I was considering going for K custom series but I'm not really sure what to pick.
    I can have 2 sets one for Jazz/Blues/Funk, and another for prog metal.

    Choice was: 1 Hi-hat, 2 Crashes, 2 Splashes, 1 Ride, 1 China!

    I'd really like some help and your opinion on what specific Cymbal to pick!

    Thanks alot!!

    It's up to you in the end since cymbal sound is based almost completely on personal preference. Zildjian K's would be a good place to start looking in terms of jazz cymbals, but for prog metal and stuff like that I would say brighter cymbals would be better like A Custom. Or you could go for A's which are a sort of middle-of-the-road line and can pretty much do anything. Like I said it's all about personal preference. The best thing to do is go down to a music store and try out all the cymbals and see what you like the sound of and go from there.

    If you're asking about K customs, you must already know the caliber cymbals they are and that's excellent! In my experience, a regular cymbal line and it's advanced version sound worlds apart. Such as the difference between an A and an A custom crash. With the A you're going to get more of a mellow warm sound, and with the A custom you're going to get more of a glassy brighter/louder sound.

    Personally I like the base cymbal lines of A and K's best because they have an excellent balance of wash and clarity. Of course they are more expensive, but a better cymbal calls for a higher price. I'd say either of these lines can be used for anything, it's just a matter of what species of cymbal you like- warmer(higher pitch) or darker.(lower pitch)

    I have a K Custom Session Crash that is awesome, with a darker cutting sound. I have a A Custom Crash, (reg.) that is very nice too, it is a little brighter sounding. And I have a A Custom Medium Ride, that is nice. I am sold on the crashs more than the ride,though.
    I personally prefer the K Custom but again, the A Custom crashs are very nice, either way you will have quality cymbals with these.
    I think the Zildjian ping or sweet ride would have a much better all around sound.
    Just MHO for what is it worth.

    @Russ,
    Thanks for the tips! I also like the K's to the K Customs.
    Sadly I can't find any cymbals around here and shipping is not much of an option.
    I might go with a mix of Hybrids and Darks for Hi hat/Splashes/Crashes
    As for the ride I'm still confused, I really like a dry sound.
    Planning for a K dry ride, not sure which one yet, but I think the Dry Complex II would sound well!

    @kourso
    Thanks for your opinion!
    Will check out the rides! =D
