Question Should I bounce the rudiments?

I have been wondering, in rudiments such as doubles and even paradiddles, am I supposed to go and utilize the bounce at higher speeds or am I supposed to be able to do it with just wrists, arms, and fingers?

    Yes....

You should be able to do both, if I understand you correctly. Play them on a pillow or other non-rebounding surface. You should be able to get decent speed on the various patterns. On a drum, the energy from the down stroke will naturally result in stick rebound. Use your fingers and wrists to control that rebound and use it to play more efficiently. Increased efficiency is a step in the direction of increased speed.

Essentially, if I use ONLY wrists will that get the speed of doubles with bounce and finger catching?

I always use a bit of fingers, even on a pillow.

I believe your wrists can only go oh so fast...I think ultimately you'll have to utilize the bounce at SOME point
