    Default Tom Waits' drumming sound

Hi guys, i'm not a drummer but i compose music for my band. I'm always looking for new sounds and found this one i can't put my finger on. It's a short, hard, shrill hitting sound and Tom Waits uses it often in his songs.
In this song you can hear the hitting sound from 0:40 onwards on the second count of every measure:

Or in this song by the Golden Glows from 2:20 onwards:

I thought it could be a simple metal plate with some reverb, but i'm not sure at all. Hope you guys can help! Thanks and happy newyear!

It sounds to me like a very open rimshot either recorded in a very open room, or with a lot of reverb and EQ added afterwards.

    Who let him in here?

Seriously, it sounds like a dry or muted pang cymbal to me. Could be anything though.

    And welcome to DrumChat!

sounds like a muted cymbal. Possibly a very small hi-hat.

The only two constants I have are DW and Zildjian.

i would say its a rimshot with a cracked muted wuhan china or something to make a ribbon crashing sound.
