    Default Sharing the love

I just wanted to share something to my brothers and sisters in arms,

A few weeks ago a milestone had been passed.
I learned how to play my first song and how to play it with style.

“She’s so high above” me of “Everclear”.

It’s a commercial one and not that hard to play it.
But for a beginner like myself it was perfect.
It’s got some basic variations but plenty enough to keep you busy.
So I’ll advise it to any beginner who wants to get his feet wet in song playing.
Also, a big plus: I could stand to play and hear it over and over again for as many amounts as I can bloody count.
I’m very grateful for this to be my first song and solely out of gratitude towards it, I’ll promise to play it for as long as I sit behind those drums.

    Anyhow,
Ever since then things really have been going triple speed.
I’m currently working on my sixth one; “Mr Jones” of “The Counting Crows”
    (Also highly recommendable for beginners)
This is even one of the reasons why I wanted to learn them drums.
And I must say that I just can’t get enough of playing it.

I love it, I love my drums and I love playing that music,...
But what I love most of all,my worst fears haven’t come true :
I’m not a complete rhythmical moron.
    Which ofcours, feels great.

So thank you all for reading this thing true and...

(I really want to have said it, ...)

    Keep on rocking!!!

Very cool, Upxl! You give me hope. I had always wanted to play drums ever since I was a little kid, but I ended up with a clarinet in the fourth grade. It just didn't get it for me and I gave up on music. I'm a little older now, and I decided that I would go back to an early love. It doesn't matter whether I ever play for anyone other than myself. I'm just enjoying playing and learning (or is that learning and playing?). Thanks for sharing your excitement!

    Hey, Upxl!

Now you're ready for a brother's hug! Congrats on that milestone!

My breakthrough came at a drum recital May 10, 1990 (17 years ago!). The first two tunes I played in public were Rosemary Clooney and Perez Prado's "Corazon de Melon" and Prado's arrangement of "In a Little Spanish Town". "Corazon" was a standard cha-cha with bongos; "Spanish Town" started with a driving martillo on bongos followed by a walking beat on the congas--which for me at the time was a major challenge!

Considering I was nearly 38 at the time, man, I was old enough to be the father of most of the other drum students...and nervous as any of them!

After that, things started goin' triple speed for me, and they haven't stopped since...

    Go, bro', go!
keep the beat goin' ... Don't keep it to yourself!

When I reread this post I'm glad to say i have kept my word.
The music i'm trying to play now is slightly more complex, but for every warm up and cool off i still play CC and the one of everclear.

    Hey all.

How are my fellow drummers doing?
It’s been a while since I posted here but I never stopped visiting.
It’s good to see the die hard veterans of D.c. still are alive and kicking (the bassdrum that is)

How’s that clarinet Pastor Bob? Still under the dust I hope.

Congrats Upxl! Just a point of clarification, the song "She's So High (Above Me)" is by Tal Bachman, not Everclear.

Weezer is another good option for beginning drummers. They have some songs that are very catchy, easy to follow, but not boring. Give them a look!
