Most drummers are using the new Evans Emad. I use the Remo PS3 on my batter and Aquarian 2ply on the reso. I will have to change my batter someday and I am not sure what I will put on. So far the PS3 has been doing it's job. New products coming out all the time and it confusing but then that is the way this world works. Good luck on whatever you pick.

Aquarian Super Kick or the Evans EMAD, GMAD. Can't go wrong with any of them.

    I would suggest...

    Evans EMAD
    Aquarian Superkick II
    Remo Powerstroke III
    Kevin
DW Performance series - Gun Metal Metallic Lacquer
    24/12/16 6.5x14
    Sabian AA/AAX hi-hats & crashes
    Sabian HHX Evolution ride

    Drummers can be very tempomental.....

Hey guys - I'm brand new here and this is my very first post on the forum.

I started drumming at the tender young age of 33 almost 8 years ago, and the very first bass drum batter head I ever bought was a clear Evans EMAD. At one point I tried a single ply Superkick, but didn't care for it, and I like what I get out of the EMAD so well that I'm reluctant to try anything else.

I like it because it's really punchy, yet retains some resonance. By comparison I found the Superkick to be almost all attack, and it lacked the roundness I like in the EMAD. I've used both coated and clear - the coated is a bit more controlled and a bit warmer than the clear, but I like them both. I only got the coated because they were out of clears at the time, but I'll use either one - doesn't matter to me.

I agree with you. I like the EMAD better but I found that (with the old version) of the EMAD that the SKII lasts longer.

That said, Evans has made changed to the EMAD and I'll be switching back to that soon.

The EMAD I'm currently running on my SMX is a couple of years old at the least - it's going dead, but it's still usable because I use Remo FALAM Slam patches, which are really tough and will outlast about any head they are used on.

I'm all for the superkick II. I have used the emad on my old kick, it was a reliable head and will get the job done if it has the sound youre looking for. I found the SKII to have more punch and i love it. Best of luck

All the heads posted here will do the trick.

I just picked up an Evans GMAD and I freakin love the thing.

The GMAD is a thick single ply so it has some of the feel of a EMAD but with some of the durability of an EMAD 2.

I also have some Remo Falams on it and it gives it great attack and click with some serious thunder.

I have an EMAD batter, stock resonant with hole, and no dampening on a 20" maple drum and is sings. I am loving the Vater vintage bommer beater lately as well. I have a nice sustain after a mostly focused attack.

I've really eager to try out the new Powerstoke Pro soon.

Remo Powerstroke Pro... ooooo... I've gotta try it. Probably a lot like the EMAD.

The only two constants I have are DW and Zildjian.

Evans EQ series, 1, 2, 3, or 4, with Remo Fiberskyn resos or Evans EQ3 ported that I have on one of them, stock Rogers Ambassador clear on another with port. I have two 18," two 20," one 22," and one 24." On the 24" I have a Remo PS3 pin clear batter.

Basically the same thing, but the ring is attached and not switchable.

One more EMAD fan...although the Aquarian SuperKick II is a winner as well. For punch, a ported reso head will be your best choice.
