9 plies of basswood. its off a beginner drum kit. It would probably sound pretty cool with those dimensions and look even cooler. but that size snare from that line is probably only worth maybe $65-85 brand new. So, Yes it is a pretty good deal, and if you like the sound then $25 for a snare is great.

Regardless of what it's made of or what it's from, it's a $25 snare. If you can make use of it, what could be bad?

It's not a bad price at all for a budget line popcorn snare. It appears to be from the old "punx" line, which is one that used basswood shells and experimented with various powdercoating and custom finishing. It's a pretty drum, but I don't put much faith in the reliability of this coating, as it's mostly an aesthetic and ddrum for awhile was putting out less than satisfactory results in the punx series so it was cancelled. The earliest punx products also had problems with bad bearing edges and lugs that would actually break off. The idea behind ddrum has always been to offer a solution for guys who wanted custom stuff without the limitations that the high price tag creates. It's not the same quality where the entry to lower mid level lines are concerned, but the same or close where the higher end stuff like Dios and USA lines come into play.
