I'm just assuming you need to sit up straight like they taught in school?
sit on the front of the throne with your legs 90 degrees
All I do is make sure when I sit is to check to see that I can comfortly reach all drums and cymbals, if that means slightly forward then do it..but remember if your reach is too far you will tire easily when playing for long periods..it has got to feel normal.
Enjoy the Music!

Sitting you get to sit .. my instructor wont let me sit until I can play the Black Page flawlessly .. .. standing on my head .. .. under water.. with a blindfold on.

I tried taking life seriously, didn't much like it so now what I take seriously is living
I can say this with the utmost confidence. I've sat on "flat bicycle seats" and others that claimed to be cushiony. But after all is said and done, the RocnSoc seat will be your best friend.
I have a Rogers throne stand and padded seat. The vinyl seat got punctured during a very cold night while transporting to a gig and I haven't used it since. This week I purchase a RocnSoc replacement seat (not the entire assembly) just to be able to use the tripod of the Rogers throne. Man those seats are for sure the best.
They will aid you in correcting posturial mistakes.

So...sit up tall and straight essentially?
Yes, and a good seat will promote a healthy posture.

I have a Pearl Roadster and LOVE it. Glad my posture is okay
Zack, since this is your thread I have a question.
Did you compete in the Guitar Center drum off a few years back or some other talent contest in your area?
Signature here
I have competed in that and a few other competitions!
