Ok...here comes a couple donny brewer stories
    from da infamous phrogge archives:

When i was in jr high school in ohio,,,
we used to have these concerts promoted by da ymca ...
My guitar player & i were real good phriends of da promoter
and gettin our groove as male music "groupies"
    da meet & greet kind...anyway...
He brought into town "terry knight & the pack"
terry had been na michigan dj & got some midwest play action on
    "mister you're a better man than i " & " i who have nothing"
(shirley bassey had da bigger hit of that song later)
anyway his bass player, mark farner,,,not in attendance had hepititus,,
& his drummer was a 16 year old drummer (mr afro) donny brewer!!!!!
They rocked da joint so hard, the fans took sparkplug wires
and distributer cap off da limo...
We gave them da ride to da airport that nite...

Anyway yes, terry gave up singing & started promoting grand funk railroad
wif donny & mark...wiser biz move i think....

Anyway years later when we got the itch to pick up "american band"
da stoopid drummer (try as he may ,,,,,never ever got da drum beginning right,,,,yes never!!!!) so my guitar players brother had some 12 year old drummer (i was 22 at the time) come in sit down & wif a smile on his face...
Played dat drum part perfectly..at me (and i was one of this kids heros!!!!)

my 1st big dose of humilty...
Gene gamble may you forever have that smile on yer face ....rip...

    Lesson here?
    Never forget ....
    Everybody has a hero...
Plz try & be one to someone else!!!

    LEGEND IN MY OWN MIND
    & FORCE BEHIND DA
"PHX AZ LEGEND OF DA ZYDECO GROOVE VEST"
(AND OTHER TOYZ) INCLUDING PIZZABOX SNARE DRUM

IT'S ALL ABOUT DA SHOW !!!!!

Saw GFR at Jazz fest last week in Ottawa and Don still has the chops as he did back in the 70's. Great show, great band. Love em.

Ahh...Sweet Pearl Man! I'm jealous. I'd like to see these guys live with Don behind the kit.

I hear you man. I feel the same way when an older favorite band from the 70's is performing in a concert and that I cannot make it . Rush was also there at the Jazz Fest a couple of days after and saw them too. I try to see as many bands of my era 70's before they are all gone. Don was great besides being up there in age and no Afro LOL.

Their 1976 'Good Singin' Good Playin' album is much overlooked, produced by Frank Zappa.
