    Smile which kit upgrade?

    hi everyone
i have recently posted a thread about the ludwig epic euro shell pack. i got great feedback about the kit but then i was wondering if its a good idea
i currently have a sonor force 507. as far as i know its an entry level kit with basswood shells and im looking at a kit with either maple, birch, mahogany shells
ect. so my question: should i go from a beginer kit to intermediate or pro?
iv been playing for 7 years but i did have a 3 year break, i play anything from jazz to metal so i want a pretty versatile kit but i guess the heads will make more of a difference.
here is what i have found so far
    sonor eXtreme birch
    ludwig epic euro
    gretsch catalina maple
    mapex meridean
i can get about 1000 bucks for a kit now but i can probably wait a little and save up to 1500 (although id prefer to get a $1000 kit
so i have cash for hardware/snare) so what do you guys reccomend? these are all mainly intermediate sets but im not sure about the ludwig.
so what do you guys think
    thanks for the help guys

really any of the above kits are good . for 1,000 bucks , you have lots of choices , your best bet would be to go to a drum shop and try a few sets , see what sounds good to you , picking what drum set you like is a good problem to have ... have fun.

Any of those kits will be a great kit that will last 99% of the drummers all of their careers. Intermediate gets a rap by all the internet experts out there. Todays Intetmediate kits have better hardware, workmanship and options than many the pro levell kits of the past. My 06 Superstars are a far superior kit than my 87 Granstars.

If you're not crash hot about the Ludwig Epics, within the Ludwig range go for say Classic Maple, Legacy Classic, Legacy Exotic, or Ludwig Centennial.

Or if you want to really splash out, maybe an Australian Brady drum kit....mind you you'll have to wait a little while for one of these to get done, lol.

I agree with going for the intermediate kit, especially since you sound like your not real hot on spending more than $1,000. Pro kits can come when you are earning more - either with you kit, or through an other job.

    thanks everyone!!
another one iv been considering is the pdp m5 with an additional 16X16(14?) floor tom it looks good and i love that green fade... anyway i have another question that doesn't relate to any of this, were could i get prices for these kits on the internet? i was looking on Google product search and at several different sites but they don't give me consistent answers.
btw i havent made up my mind on any of these kits so im still open to suggestions.
    thanks guys

From what I've read, I think there are better options than the M5 that are still affordable.

Is buying used an option for you? I have seen pro kits used for under a grand before...but this is depending on how many drums you want in your set up too.

WOW! Well congrats on your upcoming engagement! The DWs can come later...but if you miss the chance for the right woman, you may never find her again.

+1. There are a lot of options when you get used. I see used Renown kits for under $800 around here (NYC area), among others.
