With as many snares as I own, replacing heads requires a winning lottery ticket.

    Now.... seriously..
I will replace if coating develops holes or if it quits responding like it should. I have a Remo Coated Ambassador that is at least 15 years old on one snare that I use quite often. It still sounds good. If it aint in need of fixin, dont break it.

My head usually lasts 6 months until I would like to replace it or feel like I need to replace it, but I could definitely "make do" with my head for a year. I just love fresh heads, but it also depends on the head. I had an Evans G1 that lasted me a good time, but it was only a singple ply, basic, coated head. My EC2 Reverse Dot snare head has lasted me 7 or 8 months with no signs of slowing down.

I fall between once a year and once every two years. I clicked 2 years cause I wanted to be a jam master.

Every two or three years. I often hit HARD, but I've only ever broken one snare head. Then again, I've only replaced the snare batter head twice over the past 8 years I've been playing, lol

Once every 2 years. I've been told that I hit hard, at least harder than the person that said that. But not hard enough to damage heads. I have 3 heads for my 2 14" snares. I switch them out every year or so.

In my opinion ambassador snare heads don't last at all long for me. I was excited when I got the coated ones on my drums a few months ago. But a month later I was playing some megawatt and they all got holes in them. Strange i know. But anyway I've made the change to pinstripes and k haven't broken one since I bought them 6 months ago

coated ambassador on my main snare (used average 1 hr per day) still ok after nearly 2 years. no dents and the coating is still on, plenty of grime build up on the head too. sounds great!

For me it really depends on how much I'm practicing, but I usually switch out a snare head inside of 6 months - sometime between 3 and 6 months - and it depends on the head. My favorite snare heads are Aquarian single ply texture coated, and once they start to go dead, they go really dead in a hurry, so there is no extending the life by cranking them up a bit more.

I chose 2 years, but could easily be longer. Used to be Ambassador coated, now Genera Dry; never broken a head by playing, and I change if the tone is no longer there. Could be 2, more often 5 years, but I don't get to play every day now. No hard hitting, pop/rock or swing; Tama Artwood maple or Camco maple.
    Have a nice day.

I would say every 2-6 months if used for acoustic use. I'm not actually the heaviest of hitters so I can get a good amount of time out of it, but I do need it to be in good shape for tunability and sound purposes. If it's being triggered, there is no physical need to replace the head unless it is noticeable broken or unusable.

About every 3-6 months for the batter side (sooner if I don't like the head). I replace the snare side about every third batter side change.

    YMMV

On average, it's about once a year. I have a few snares, though, and I like to change them out from time to time, so this isn't an exact interval for me.

I should probably also say, my timing isn't exactly accurate either. It consists of on-off playing while I am away from school and home. I tried to adjust it the best that I could but it's obviously not perfect or probably even very close.

Like others, it depends on the coating, dents, etc. When I was gigging full time it was roughly every 6 months.
