That depends what kind of sound you are looking for, and how much resonance you want. What kind of music do you play? What kind of sound do you like? Do you like alot of resonance or not so much?

Yes. Either one as res should be ok. Now, how you tune them....is up to your "taste."

You sure start a lot of threads about the same heads! LOL. I like the G1 as a reso. You might not. But, you might.

I persoanlly use Evans G2 coated over G1 clear on my DW and TAMA kits and I love it, nice warm controlled tone with enough overtones to still cut and sound open.

Hmmm - never thought about using a Genera as a resonant head. I've always used Remo Ambassadors or G1s - both clear. Wouldn't the Genera give a bit of a darker sound? I might have to try that.

Why are you putting new heads on your old drums if you are about to order DW's?

Heads can also be swapped - when I bought my Pearl SMX Session, I took all of the reso heads off of my Pacific FS kit that I owned at the time and put them on the Pearl because they were all the same diameter.

This is my favorite combination. I've had both clear and coated G2s but always clear G1s on the bottom and the sound is great on my maple kit.

The coated 2-ply over the clear 1-ply (Emperor/Ambassador or G2/G1) seems to be a well-regarded combination. I see it and hear about it a lot.

Speaking of that combination, is anyone trying that setup with Aquarians? Some people rave about Aquarians and some people think they sound plasticky - like everything else it boils down to personal preference. I've mainly used Remos and Evans on everything, although I'm pretty loyal to Aquarian for snare batters.

Sorry - got a bit off topic, but I thought I'd toss it out there.

I don't see where you could go wrong either way. I'm playing EC2 SSTs over generas at the moment. It's certainly not the most open sound, but there's still a nice round sound out front.
    Mmm... Saturns.
