If you had 4 toms in front like he does and I do,then you would see how much of a challenge it can be to get your hats where they should be. I know mine are off to some people, but I have gotten used to where they are and it works for me. I also have Octobans and a floor tom on the left,so there is barely room for hi hats between all that.

Where should the hi-hat be? I was under the impression that how and where a drummer positions his/her equipment is just a much a personal decision as why they play and what they play. You can put them where you want on your kit. If it works for him on his kit that's what's important.

Very nice, I see you rack section has moved to the left of the bass drum now?
Any front facing shots? (perhaps in another section)

Another cure for strained groin syndrome would be to simply raise the height of the hi-hat cymbals so they can overlap the 8" tom a bit. That tom is tucked in low and close to the snare which makes sense. The hats wouldn't have to be all that high (sorry) to improve the angle and could still leave plenty of stroke room for the tom.
I've got 3 up and have the 8" arced to the radius of my snare which doesn't interfere at all with the natural placement of my hh. I've been seriously considering moving the 8" up. ala Peart, and trying to stuff my 10" side snare inside the hh to act as an optional fourth upper tom. I keep it corked high for a sharp pop and it makes a great timbale-esque lead in to the rest of the toms when not ensnared.

I like the setup, with the possible exception of where it makes the hi-hat go, but then I've never tried it there, so that's just a visual observation. Are the toms 8, 10, 12, 13 & 16, or is the FT a 14"?
Move the last racked tom further to the ride and have the ride right above it then slide the other toms across it works well

The only thing I have to say about that picture (and no, it's not about the hats position lol),
you gotta tell your guitarist to pick up that Strat before someone steps on it!!!

    Again though, great kit mate.
