Wow, you did a fantastic job on that cleanup and the kit looks amazing VIbes! Congrats!
I acquired last week and restored this week a 1958-60 Vintage Ludwig Classic Kit. they were in pretty rough shape but the shells were fine and the wrap as near to pristine as I could ask for. Just a slight fadeing. But natural for a drum over 50 years old. I stripped all the hardware off and took every screw and spring off and cleaned them. Then put a lot of cleaning time into the wraps. Almost back to original. Cleaned and polished all the nickel lugs and hardware. Restored the bass hoops by filling all the indents with wood filler, removed the hoop strips and cleaned them and painted the hoops. Put the bottom Ambassador heads on top and scrubed the top Ambassador heads with barkeepers friend and put them on the bottom. They came out really nice and I love them. They sound amazeing. The fellow I got them from was thinking about rewrapping them because he wanted a new look, so instead I saved them by tradeing him my ddrum set for them. After pics of the original set up, I removed the rail tom mount and cymbal mount and put them away for safe keeping and used a snare stand for the 13" tom. The last pic is how I am going to use them for performance. Put one of my vintage Supraphonics with them. In fact I was just asked to perform with "McCartney Mania" with the guy who used to portray "Paul" in "Beatlemania". First gig this Sat. night and going to use them. All "Beatles & McCartney Tunes. I think it a fitting kit for that type music.

Thanks Olimpass. I hated to give up my ddrums but I never really used them. They were nice though.. I didn't have a whole lot of $ in them and rather have the Ludwigs. Now I have these and those Slingerlands in the same configuration.

Nice! Another great vintage find for you! I' trade ddrum for Ludwig anyday.
I would opt for a coated white bass drum reso though ...fits more of the vintage look of these drums.
Yes dropdtune, I realize that and will eventually get a Weathermaster head and a old Ludwig logo. That was the reso head that was on there and I have had them less than a week. Nice Evans on both sides and going to play them on a gig this weekend so in no hurry. Also heads are not cheap these days. What I am going to do is use that black evans reso head for the logo of the band I play with and throw it on there for gigs and have the Ludwig Logo head for the rest of the time.

being a huge fan of Chicago and the drums the city has produced over the years, thank you for restoring this kit.
Luddys and Slingys, Chicago is a drummers paradise, check out Vics downtown or his The Drum Pad in Palatine which hosts 100's of drumsets.
i find gems like this all the time on CL and can never pull the trigger due to asking price, but ONE DAY.
Looks good with a little patina. Congrats on your new vintage kit! The vintage Evans logo is interesting too.
I am a huge Ludwig fan, especially vintage ones. They look awesome!!!
You did a great job man and you should be proud to show them off as much as you can cause they are worth it. Congrats
Very nice find and fantastic job on the restoration and cleaning. I love old drums, cymbals and hardware. I'm in the process of doing to a late 50's Gretsch what you did to this beautiful Ludwig. I like the cymbal stands; vintage 1400 flat base?
And congrats on the new gig.

Well done VIbes! That restoration came out extremely well. Looking at what I can see of the furnishings of your home, the kit just seems perfect there.

Thanks guys! I am very excited to perform on them tonight. I have had a couple of those Ludwig 1400 flat base stands and that hihat stand since I got them with my Ludwig Hollywood set in 1972. I use them with all my vintage sets and my Jazz Catalina set. I guess someone spilled something? on the bass drum but fortunately it wiped right off. I found that spot in the living room is good to take pics between 9am and noon. I can open the front door and the shades and the lighting is perfect. I got another 8"x12" tom with the kit from the guy I got the kit from that he bought years later. He ordered it from a drum shop and they rewraped it in gold sparkle for him but it is not the same shade of gold. Very nice Ludwig maple drum though with the smaller lugs.

You do some amazing restorations, I think you have a real talent there. This isn't the first time i've seen you work some real magic either- I think you'd have a bright future if you ever decided to get into a custom drum business. That said, these are really great looking!

Yes heads are a cost to reckon with. In fact, I've started look at the local used market as a source for lugs, rims, hardware and...even heads! Some people sell some cheap drums but with more worth for the heads on them.
Logos add up too. Not sure where I came across it, maybe another site, but somebody actually stencilled in their Ludwig logo on a coated head with ....a Sharpie....not even noticeable at a yard away, and saved the $10.
