Thanks guys. It does make for a cool background. Shot that with my 50mm lens, wide open at f1.8 to soften that background. I'm all the way across the room so I can get my whole kit in the shot. The 50mm isn't very wide....but it is sharp.
Yes, the room with the kit set up and color are great. The stone just works, without overpowering the kit like some stage backgrounds can.

lol your wall gets just as much attention on here lol it does give a kinda beautiful background since the bricks match the cymbals, just wondering do you gig live with the bass tilting up like that? ive always liked the look, kinda holds on to my pedals better i was just curious why you do it
New set up of the same set plus a new sabian Xs20 China

This weekend I was fortunate that I don't swing very high and that I'm only 5'8". On a stage on a riser I could flat-palm the drop ceiling sitting down.
Other than that, a killer gig at a small-town Eagles Club.
I wondered that too. I've seen a number of drummers mount chinas this way and think it may be because many drum stores mount their china stock this way round too and so drummers will copy. I questioned a guy in a store once about this and he said that the mounting hardware used for the display units doesn't allow for mounting the chinas the 'right' way up as they tilt because of the lack of felts and wingnuts.
I would expect that mounting a china with the flanged edge up would increase the liklihood of cracking.

Took this last night. Minimal editing. Almost straight from the camera.
Shane, is that an Electro-Voice N/868? I didn't know they were for overheads/room. I don't see them used often but I assumed they were for close miking?

I always see those electrovoice mikes for close micing. Usually for Toms. They sound great, heck, Gavin Harrison uses/used em if I'm not mistaken. I need to get me some.
The only two constants I have are DW and Zildjian.
It's actually the Electro-Voice ND 408A, and they are definitely made for close micing. That used to be my rack tom mic, but I found that it picks up at enough of a distance, that I can raise it up high enough and get basically everything except the bass drum to come through. I bump the highs and lows a bit and cut the mids (EQ), and it sounds great. I played a benefit show once in a room large enough for 300 people. Afterwards a guy came up and asked how I was micing the kit, which was a Beta 52 on the kick, 57 on the snare, and the EV overhead. It turns out he was the regional Shure Mic rep, and he told me that was one of the best live drum sounds he had ever heard, so that's a "win" in my book.
Also - that particular mic once graced the kit of Neal Peart! An old bass player of mine worked for a sound company where he was running the monitor board. They did a Rush tour, and he "ended up with" (not sure how legally) a set of 10 of these, which were all Neal's rack tom mics. This was the last one he held onto over the years.
I do sing, and when it's loud enough, the EV picks it up. I try avoid having to sing, because my playing sucks when I need to do both.
I use it all over the place - overhead, close micing my hand drums, snare, even on the marching field for amplified woodwind solos. It's rugged and sounds pretty neutral.
My Ludwig Power Tom Kit...I have owned it since 1980. All my hardware is North Heavy Duty except the Speed King Pedal. Also they are all Zilgian Cymbals.

Welcome to drumchat Kev! That's an awesome set you got there, where did you find Pinstripes with black dots? Did you have to add the dots onto them seperately?
