Nope... those issues are a distant memory... the Gen-X shells are slightly undersized in fact so heads seat and tune up like magic.

I just bought a 1971 Premier snare and a 14" head was just right so I don't know how long that issue has been resolved.

I saw something that showed 2004, thought it was the first year. I'm sure you are correct.

I think that may have been when they changed over to the the new smooth lugs and logo badge... the shels are the same but the hardware is a bit different now.

Here are some pics of my set. Its a 7-piece 2002 Tama swingstar, but don't let the swingstar badge throw you off, it's a great set and worth every penny I payed. The cymbals are all Zildjian A Customs execpt the ride, china, and the 16" crash which are regular A series Zildjians.

    Toms:
    10"x8"
    12"x9"
13"x10" (haven't used this one in a while so it's not pictured)
    14"x11"
    16"x16"

    Snare:
    14"x5.5"

    Bass:
    22"x18"

    Cymbals:
    14" Mastersound hats
    14" and 15" crashes
    16" paper thin crash
    6", 8", and 10" splashes
    18" china boy high
    20" ping ride

I love this set to death, it's been my favorite out of the eight or so sets I've had in the 15 years I've been drumming.

Good looking kit. Is that in a studio, or do you do home recording?

Dude....DON'T sell them. Don't even THINK about it anymore.

If you sold your 14 and 16 does that mean you don't have any floor toms now???? How's your kit set up?

Here's an up-date on my 1961 (mostly 1958) Gretsch restore project.

Just a few photos of where I'm at after five weeks.

The first three photos are the day I brought them home - the next two were taken tonight in our living room - that's me holding the K Zildjian ride and AZildjian hats that came with the drums. The heads are temporary - I just could not wait to play them - first time tonight! I have a little work to do yet....waiting for parts and heads.

    Cheers,

    Gary

So far it's looking like a classic is returning to it's glory days!

Is the 3rd photo a rotted kick hoop? And what happened with that part?

    BTW: restorations rock!

I bought another on eBay, but - I cleaned and separated the three plys on that rotten one and it will be a future - maybe very future - project to bring it back to life and put it back where it belongs........on these drums!

Here's what it looks like now.......
Notice the very delicate surgery in photo three - I did take it easy it just looks gross here - haha. Some planning and skilled woodwork and these hoops may have a chance........Ray Ayotte told me he's repaired worse.....wow!

This is the one I bought on eBay after I finished painting it yesterday and added one thin coat of Tung Oil to the inlay groove.
