Didn't care for how the kick was sounding, which offered me a chance to change the look.
    Love the black!

Here's the story of how I almost gave them up after all these years.

I hadn't played my Ludwig drum set in probably 20 years so when we moved to a new house 3 years ago, I sold them. We live in Ohio and a drummer friend of mine took them to a show in Chicago and sold them for me. I had owned them since new in 1969 along with all the zyldjian cymbals and hardware. So last month, while accompanying a friend looking at a new house (in Ohio), we walked into the basement where the homeowner kept his drum collection including a set of blue sparkle Ludwigs. I realized at that moment, I had made a huge mistake and upon first glance, realized these were in fact my drums!! Long story short, this collector bought these from a guy who had bought them for his Ohio drum store. The collector was nice enough to sell them back to me, I then tracked down and bought my perfect chrome snare (still with the drummer friend) and bought all new hardware, pedal, high hat and some very nice used zyldjian cymbals. I'm practicing like mad, taking lessons and I feel way younger than my 64 years!!

I agree. A very serendipitous moment for me, to walk into a strangers house, find my old drums there and then get an offer to buy them back. I was over the moon over this situation. Everything is coming back to me and life is really really good right now! Great site this too...

    Thanks guys!

Just picked up this kit. Always wanted a Gretsch Renown kit. New old stock - sat on a shelf in the store for the last 2 years. Has the old Gretsch badges, old GTS tom mounts and a discontinued color (for Renowns-it's still available on USA Customs). I guess no one wants the "old" stuff. That makes for a fantastic deal when they have to move it out.

8-10-12-16-22 w/snare. I'm pleasantly surprised by the snare. Both that the kit included it (typically a Renown kit does not include a snare) and the sound/feel. It's really a nice drum. I'll have fun this weekend. Changed the heads out to coated Emperors. Need to put new heads on he kick and it's ready to go anywhere. I'll spend a little time dialing them in then I'll play until my bad elbow makes me stop. Woohoo!

Now I just need to unload my good ol' Catalina Maple kit. 8-10-12-14-16-22 Dark Cherry Burst. I'll miss it.

You will love them, top end drums at an affordable price. I picked my 6 piece kit up 2 years ago at $1200 on sale being a limited finish offer.

    Enjoy the new kit.

Thanks. Its a comfortable setup. Its going to be an adjustment not having a 14"floor tom. Going straight from a 12" to 16" is hard right now. I'm having trouble because the 16 really has blls and can boom. Tuned for that big, low sound it makes for a big drop from the 12 to the 16. I can tune it higher but then I'm missing the big low end. I'll adjust. Love the tone and the depth of these drums. Anybody have any suggestions on tuning a 10-12-16 setup for the most versatile sound?
