I go to my local drum shop and purchase my sticks. I like to touch them before I buy them ;-)

I picked up this old Yamaha 5000 Series kit on craigslist a few months ago. Never really intended on keeping it. It came with some other cymbals, hardware etc...and the price was too good to pass up. I think it was made in 1982 based on the serial number.
Then I played it! I scaled it down for a small gig (didn't feel like bringing my full rig either that night) and was really happy with it's feel.
This kit has the warmest - punchiest - yet, in-your-face sound of any kit I've ever had. Even with the old heads that were on it (I'd guess they were twenty years old at least..) they sounded good. I even started using it out....and other musicians commented on how well it sounded...especially the 24 inch kick. It moves air.
So...I've decided to keep it.....dropped some bones on her....reskinned it.....and then put the white YAMAMA Kick reso on it to give it that CLASSIC CAR look. Used it with the new look last night at a St. Patty's gig downtown.
Ungh......I've fallen in love with this kit.

Very nice Yamaha kit EddieV. The white reso looks good!
Marko- Very cool looking "Man Cave". The reso head looks awesome in the last pic!
almostMatt!- I like the set up on the Rotos...looking really nice on the shells! Natural finish?

BE COUNTED!
Ha...I didn't actually purchase any of my 3 kits. The Swingstar on the right is "my" kit. My wife (then girlfriend) bought it for me in college. My Imperialstar is on loan from my buddy who plays drums in a horror punk band I play in. We only do Halloween shows, so I've got it until then. And my 3rd kit at the practice space was given to me by the guitar player in that same band, but it once belonged to that same drummer. Confused?!?! lol.
But thank you! And the blue gong doubles as a swimming pool for my dog...well it did when he was a puppy.
Thanks guys
Nope its not new, its about 5 years old. yeeap Late8, its a natural finish I took the wrap off and put the varnish on myself.
Nice kits marko and eddie!
woot, post 9000 on this thread.
Sonor - Pearl - Tama - Mapex - Paiste - Sabian - Roc N Soc - Pro Mark - Gibralter - Evans - Dixon - Mapex
Thanks late8 As soon as i get myself a good camera, ill get quite a few pictures of the wood grain, because up close it came out BEAUTIFULLY, even with the cheap wood.
If i recall, you did a spectacular job on some ludwigs too.
Sonor - Pearl - Tama - Mapex - Paiste - Sabian - Roc N Soc - Pro Mark - Gibralter - Evans - Dixon - Mapex
heres my rig...
Very interesting config. Two snares and a floor. Not a popular option. Great cymbals choices, although I have never heard some of your models, it's all pro stuff, I think.
What kind of music are you playing with that set-up?
Proudly playing:
Doc Sweeney Drums
A bunch of snares
A bunch of cymbals
Off-Set double pedals
I think I love to play the drums simply because you get to hit 'em!!!
