There's no harm in asking a rep or emailing mapex about the Tom .. I got a 2008 build Tom made for me in 2010 took 8 months to apply the finish but it was worth it

I actually did just that just a little earlier and got this response " This finish is no longer available and never made in either an 8" or 18" tom" I asked if a custom order was possible and they said no. But they were quick to respond and very nice, so +1 for the customer service.

Some new pictures of my Yamaha kit full of Sabians. There is a 10" AAX Splash on the right under the 18" crash. I am really liking this Pearl Icon rack I picked up with the Tama kit.

Thanks.I've enjoyed getting back into drums the last few years. I never imagined it would become this habit forming, but I like it.
I have seen a lot of really nice looking kits in this thread and it's hard to just pick a few out and comment on them. Every kit has it's own uniqueness about it.

Not as loud as high-end maple but still a great deal of power

Really? Your Crushes are quieter than maple? My Fibes are louder... I think.

I will concur about the Crush acrylics. Mine do not sound louder necessarily, just way more full.

The acrylics I have are by drumcraft and they don't have the same attack and attenuated bite like a maple shell

It seems like since the insides are totally smooth, the sound bounces around way more than with porous wood. It's like there is a more full sound but it's not necessarily much louder. I think I can actually tell it's a non-organic sound, but not harsh at all. It's sort of hard to describe.

And while I'm here...another picture never hurts.

It is difficult to exactly describe the sound of acrylic drums, and like wood sets, I'm sure different brands differ in sound. But I believe there is a general similarity that covers them all and it is, for lack of a better term, a synthetic sound. (yes, same as non-organic) Another adjective that comes close is "metallic".
I think acrylics have a "thinner" sound. More highs and mids, or like there are many missing frequencies (as if compressed?) all through the range. "Thin" may not be as accurate as less warm and rich.
I do not agree that acrylic drums are "fuller" sounding. I think when I say my Fibes, and acrylics in general are "louder", the truth may be that they cut through the music and are easier to hear. It's not neccesarily a harshness per se but an edge. The warmth and bandwidth of the wooden drum sound is more easily swallowed, masked or blended into the rest of the music.
Making any sense...? any one buyin'? It may be too subjective to nail down. Sure is fun trying though!!

Here's what I think will end up being the working version of this kit. I've drug a rack out to gigs the last couple of weekends, and I think a simple 4 piece will be what I settle on. Check it out...

I added to my kit. A friend of mine came by and can't believe I have this huge of a kit.I never intended it to be this big,Yamaha made it tempting with the low prices. The Pearl Icon rack holds things pretty solid.Glad I have this rack instead o f the cheapo Pearl DR 80 rack.I am looking for another set of Octobans so I can have a set of 4 on the side.
Pictures of my kit don't do it any justice. It doesn't look as big.A person I work with came by and said they looked bigger in person then in pictures and then asked why I wasn't in a band for since I sunk so much money into this kit.
