A few shots from tonight's practice. Compared to earlier photos, I've replaced the separate cymbal stand that held the large crash with a multiclamp. I also condensed the hardware to mount the large tom from a clamp and tom arm to a simple Taye TC91.

The snare drum has been changed from the matching Whitney to the Taye Brass Metalworks 14x5 (which still nests within the other shells for transport). I have chosen to mount the snare drum in a basket compared to the mount-on-shell design of the Whitney.

A simple, elegant design is good engineering.

Thank you, sir! It's still an ongoing process to streamline the hardware as much as possible but I'd like to think I'm making progress.

Great pics MrB! Is the stand that holds the snare basket attached to the bass drum cradle? Thanks...

Hi Rich, yes, it is attached to the cradle. The cradle has two vertical rack bars, and the one in front of me has the snare basket attached via multiclamp. A memory lock also gives some resistance to rotation. I'll try to get more detailed pictures if you are interested.

I just visited their site. Nicely constructed. I like the clamps that hold the two stands. Very stealthy!!

Wow, I think that's the first time i've ever seen a clawless wood hoop bass. Props on finding parts for that bad boy, owning it, and being able to play it too. I like what you did with the snare too, seems like a good idea but a longer setup time.

I can hear your mounted toms from my house. Nice.
    Proudly playing:
    Doc Sweeney Drums
    A bunch of snares
    A bunch of cymbals

    Off-Set double pedals

I think I love to play the drums simply because you get to hit 'em!!!

Put these up on the Sonor page, but they look too good to not put them up here, too.

    My kit is a hybrid/mongrel.

Bought it in 1980 (ish) it's based on a pre-international Premier with some Olympic bits and a Hayman tom-tom mount plus a Permier Royal Ace snare.

It's battered and ancient (like me) but the 20" bass always surprises folks on the mixer -it seems to be really easy to get a good miked sound.

The plasic covering on the bass drum was split, cracked and some missing - when I removed it, it was then I realised it's history. I filled 30 holes ranging from screw holes to the damage caused when a singer jumped over the top and caught his Cuban Heels. Ripped one leg out and tore the plywood. Holes have been filled with whatever fitted -- from ****tail sticks to wooden barbeque skewers and a slice of a Vic Firrth 7a which fited one hole perfectly.
Almost finished 'renovating' with several coats of Ronseal 'French Oak' -- polishing with 2000 grade wet&dry paper has made it look superb.

It's an odd kit -- the cymbals were only bought as I saw a Hardcase cymbal case in Cash Convertors - the set of Sabians were only £30 if you take off the cost of a second-hand hardcase. Most hardware is whatever came my way --including a stand that appeared after someone helped me to pack.

Good to see that there is now more availability of pre-international heads - 12" and 16" used to only come in real cheap, sometimes Premier and Evans. Evans Hydraulic were wonderful but always needed a good thum to get the best out of them.

Made the mistake of getting a Stagg stand-mounted tambourine -the fixing bolt broke. Now got a Meinl one that even the gutarist complians about as it cut through his noodlings.

Can't afford a 'proper' kit -- but this one sounds pretty good.
Ancient but still works - thanks to Nick Hopkin (who now has had tiny screws made for the snare lever on the Royal Ace snare (saving up for snare wires --Premier Double10 ) ). All I need to do is find out how to strip off cheap black gloss paint that a previous owner decided to use here and there. Meths is good but it's so slooooow.
