Anyone have any experience with these? how do they compare to regular ambassadors or emperors? The seem like a thinner emp.

I've spent a bit of time with these heads when I am in my drum shop. The Vintage A's are actually a two ply head, in fact they were Remo's first ever drum head that wasn't made from some form of calf skin. The first ply of polyester film is 7.5mm, the second is 3-mil. A regular Emperor is two 7 mil plys of Mylar. Two different materials at two different thicknesses.

Looking for that tubby Bonham sound? These heads will do it for you! Also check out the Vintage Emperors. Those heads are AMAZING!

    I hope this helps!

    Cheers!

yeah, they are suppose to be pretty durable. I didn't know this until yesterday and was surprised. I bought the Aquarian hi-energy for my snare but the Remo's description meter says high durability for the Vintage series. Wow old thread didn't notice

Had no idea they were polyester plies, I figured the "vintage" implied that you could get a head that still used calfskin like the early days. A good read though, but if they're ambassadors why are they twin ply?

I LOVE the vintage heads!!! They are basically dryer versions of the amb/emp, gives you a little more vintage sound, they are amazing. I use them on my snares and have considered toms.
