Have always liked the sound the professor makes. Toms, snare, cowbells, doesn't matter.

I go to my local drum shop and purchase my sticks. I like to touch them before I buy them ;-)

Man is this ever going to be an opinionated subjective topic! There are so many different snare sounds that do it for me, but the number one in my book:
Driven to Tears - Stewart Copeland's snare is what HOOKED me. Seriously anything off Zenyatta is awesome not only for snare sound, but rim shots and hi hat work too. Put on some good headphones and enjoy.

I read in one of the drum magazines that it was a Ludwig Black Beauty for that recording.
Here's another one. Stewart Copeland on Modern Drummer Festival 2005. Check it out whenever you get the chance.
There are so many but this one came to mind for me. That's one crispy sounding snare!

There's this one.

Dave Abbruzzese' snare on the Pearl Jam Live in Atlanta cd from April 1994. I believe he used a Brady 7x12 according to his setup description in a Modern Drummer article. Lots of crack and depth.
So many snares...so many great sounds!
I have lots of faves, but one that stands out is the snare sound on either of the Audioslave CDs...love it!!!
DW drums and Paiste cymbals.

Chris Layton's (from the Arc Angels days) particularly on this track: "Livin' in a Dream"
Yeah, a dream of the PERFECT snare drum sound!
Everytime I hear that snare drum intro, it just speaks to me. Just like a soulful guitar solo, it puts you right into the mood of the music. That snare sound is all that is balzy, groove, funk, rock. It just is what it must be.

Cut it large and kick it into place!
