Can you make your own speaker for live sound?

If I wanted to be an "all inclusive/comes with everything" drummer, and, I wanted to save money...is it possible to buy the components and assemble your own pa cabinet to run the drums through off of my line mixer?

Or is this a crazy idea?

Yeah you absolutely can do this. Good something like PA speaker build

Tex, with all the information on the internet about the best way to build a cabinet, with available wiring diagrams, and with information on the type of speakers/horns to use, if you are handy at all, you can do it. Oh, and the other ingredient is time.

Search "Bill Fitzmaurice" in Google. I built 4 of the subwoofer cabs, very efficient and lighter than other cabs putting out the same spl. There are also designs for full pa cabs as well... I may be taking on one of those projects this year.

Search on pa cabinet plans, also there are a few companies that sell empty cabs and you install the speakers and crossovers yourself

There are places online where you can buy raw drivers and everything you need for the build. I have built a ton of car audio speaker boxes, home speakers, some PA speakers and a few home audio and PA subwoofers and saved a bunch of money.

absolutely! as a younger guy my band mates and me..built quite a few..back then we found plans to build what was called a TB-1 cabinet...with either 12's or 15" speakers.
