    depends on the context in which you are using the word. Overtones can refer to extra noise after you hit your drums. Example, I have a high pitched ring after I hit my snare drum. That's my snare drum's overtone.

    how do you eliminate drum over tones?

    Yurp.
    It also really helps if you replace your stock resonant heads with muffled or coated heads. Make sure though that the head you purchase is designed for both batter and reso becuase I bought Evans EC for mine and it sounded terrible.
