The Band Club Owner Perspective thread got me thinking about stage outfits, or lack thereof. It seems that many musicians think they should just be able to wear whatever they want or at least match what the audience is wearing. In my day, the thought was to always try and look different than the audience and even some type of band uniform or at the very least, cooridinated outfits or clothing so that you stood out as something special. I think it's a shame that we've lost a lot of that.
Anyway, what are your opinions on the matter?
Marko

cheers Mark

At the end of the day we are just a low level local band that plays original heavy music...but we've established ourselves fairly well in and around the Harrisburg PA region.
We've branded our whole thing fairly well for 4 guys who only play 1 or 2x a month at most.

My band doesn't have a cohesive look. Our lead vocalist/guitarist wears a black fedora every day (he was balding, and shaved his head), so it was suggested that everyone wear a black fedora. The others jumped in without any discuss about, but I just couldn't go with that look. On our first gig, I just figured I'd let the front line do it, since I was using the 6 piece kit with all the cymbals, and I really wouldn't be seen all that much anyway. It's pretty much been wear what you want ever since, but then my circumstance is different than most. We're really not marketing ourselves.

If I play a bar gig..black shorts, black Vater,or other endorsement shirt w/cut of sleaves, barefoot, black baseball hat or bandana, and the occasional smile...wedding/function.tux, and lots of smiles (tux and smile mean $)
I just wear shorts or jeans and a t-shirt...

Back in the day, we dressed up, it was the 80's, leather pants, big hair, cowboy boots ect.
Now nice jeans, nice t-shirt.
I could never play in jeans...and I even play barefoot at weddings/functions
I get into this with my band all the time.
Sometimes we look like this:
Which I think works.
Other times we look like this:
Which I think doesn't look too professional, but I can't seem to convince them. I wear shorts at times, but I'm sitting down and the work is a lot more sweat inducing (and I sweat a lot).
And don't even get me started on the jorts on the lead guitarist
